Guitar Multi-Effects Pedals

Guitar Multi-Effect Pedals

Essential guitar accessories, effect pedals give players the ability to change the tone and sound of their guitar at will. Bass effects pedals are similar, but are designed for the lower frequencies a bass produces. Single effect pedals change one aspect of the guitars sound, such as pitch or amplitude, while multi-effect (or multi-FX) pedals can alter multiple aspects of a guitars sound.

Convenience

To achieve a complex effect, guitarists need to use different effect pedals connected to each other, such as connecting a distortion pedal to a delay pedal to a wah pedal. While this offers a great degree of control, it can be time-consuming and tiring to set up. With a multi-effect unit, performers just need to carry one piece of equipment that is quick and easy to set up. In addition, buying a multi-effect unit can be cheaper than buying all the individual effect pedals needed to achieve the same effects. Lastly, many multi-effects units include presets and the ability to customise them. This allows players to rapidly and accurately change numerous effects.

Construction

Transporting gear to different locations for performances can be quite taxing on the gear. Some multi-effect pedals feature metal interiors and a more robust construction. If frequent performances at different locations are probable, then this type of pedal makes a good choice. However, pedals that you plan to use primarily for practice need not be as robust.

Features

If you want pedals for live performances, choosing one with a pedalboard is a good idea. This allows you to quickly change settings with your feet while performing. In addition, consider units that offer looping—the ability to record oneself and then add that melody as a separate accompanying layer of sound during a live performance.

Connectivity

To further reduce the pieces of equipment you need, consider multi-effect pedals that have USB output. This eliminates the need for a separate device to interface with a computer and allows you to easily record music on a computer.
