This flash perfectly compliments low-end Sony cameras, incl. older model DSLRs and NEXs. These F20AMs used to be sold for $120 but now that Sony changed to an ISO hotshoe they have become outdated yet still useful to a lot of owners of older Sony models. The best part is, they are available for cheap, like $90 now. $120 used to be an outrageous price for a bare flash like this but $90 is a lot more acceptable. The flash itself doesn't need much explanation: a rather low power flash that basically only adds a bi-focal "zoom" and bounce flash capability to the obsolete pop-up flash. I love how the bounce works by actually rotating the flash head internally as opposed to what many others do (rotating the entire housing). This allows the F20AM to maintain a beautiful form factor -- rectangular, uniformed shape that is easy to tuck away in a bag, as opposed to the irregular L shape of other competitors (such as the Nikon/Canon ones).Read full review
A nice little flash to fit my camera. More important, it can be used to trigger one or more larger off-camera flashes. This particular flash was brand new (except that the original packaging was opened) as promised.

Compact Tested perfect. TTL flash control works very well. Close-up and medium distance photos came out perfectly exposed, including objects foot away from lens front element. Long shots were center lit only, until I turned on DRO Level 5. Then they all came out excellent exposure, even things over 10 yards from the camera (yes, yards). Long shots need the lens to be wide open, BTW, with a weak flash like this one. Using a stronger flash, you can and often must, stop down. Love it. It's small and light, can remain on for extended time. Range and picture qualities are better than built-in flash. Fixed shadow common with stock flash while using Zeiss 1680 lens. Wished flash was mount taller to avoid shadow issues. Like being able to fold and store flash on camera. Uses AAA batteries, lithium batteries last longer that Alkaline batteries on this flash. Loses brightness quickly resulting in dim pictures while using Alkaline. Does good job controlling red eye, creates much nicer lighting all round.Read full review

I was a little undecided about getting this flash or an after market generic flash but I’m so glad to have bought the Sony, for it’s size it packs a punch and is more than adequate as a walk about flash when needed in a pinch. Looks great on my A99 and it’s lightweight, works great as a fill flash. I already have a speed light for more serious photography but needed this as a travel flash and it’s great, highly recommend!

It's exactly what I need. Provides just enough fill flash for certain types of photography for which my HVL-F56AM is way overpowered.
