This was a wonderful book. I wanted a “light-hearted-feel-good” story and this surpassed all my expectations. The main character, Novalee Nation, is seventeen and pregnant and traveling to California with her no-good ass of a boyfriend when they stop at a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma so she can use the restroom. When she heads back out to the car she discovers he has left without her, leaving her stranded with only the clothes on her back. Her marvelous journey begins at that moment. I must have cried a couple times during this book – it was that moving. Hats off to author, Billie Letts, for her grasp of the human heart, the important things in life, the strengths within us all and being able to convey it so well through her writing.
This book leaves the reader with a newly found faith in people, neighbors and community. It makes one think about leaving the big city their days rush by within and finding a village in which they could truly belong. This read was exactly what my heart needed.

Where the Heart Is, is a book that you will not be able to put down. This book was also chosen by Oprah's Book Club. It is a good read for teen's and adult's. It is a realistically true story about a pregnant seventeen year old girl, Novalee Nation, and her struggle against everyday life challenges and much more. She was heading to California with her no good boyfriend Willy Jack, when they stopped at a Wal-Mart to buy her some new house-shoes and a snack. She went inside and when she came back out he was gone. He had ditched her at a Wal-Mart with exactly $7.77. Seven months pregnant. Just her luck, seven is her unlucky number. Although at the moment she feels very unlucky, three people that she'll meet in the next hour will change her life forever. A blue haired woman named Sister Husband, a picture taker named Moses Whitecotton and Benny Goodluck a little Indian boy, who gives her a Buckeye tree for good luck and let's not forget later on she meets Forney Hull, an eccentric librarian who loves Novalee more than she loves herself. So what will happen to this jobless girl who is secretly living in a Wal-Mart? Read Where the Heart Is to find out what happens to Novalle and her baby. This was a warm and captivating story that will leave you thinking about life and its miraculous ways that life has it's ways of working out, with the help of friends and believing in herself as a new Mother.
