"Alcohol and alcoholic liquids are prepared in large quantities by the fermentation of sugar derived from various sources. The fermented liquid is distilled, and the dilute aqueous spirit thus separated from non-volatile impurities is obtained in a more concentrated form by repeated rectifications, as it boils at a lower temperature than water.
