64 GB SDXC Camera Memory Cards
SDXC camera memory cards are high capacity cards with at least 64 GB of storage. The high capacity makes them popular with photographers and videographers who want to shoot at high resolution.
How Much Memory Do I Need?
A 64 GB camera memory card will hold almost 9,000 24 megapixel images in JPEG format, depending on how compressed the files are. However, many photographers prefer to capture uncompressed raw image files. A 24 megapixel camera could produce much larger raw files depending on how many bits per colour channel are used, potentially over 50 megabytes per picture. Raw images will fill up a 64 GB memory card a lot faster. Video also uses up space quickly. The exact file size depends on your camera, but shooting in 4K can take up to 5 GB of storage capacity per minute with less compressed files.
Which Features Should I Look For?
- Make sure that your card will actually fit your camera. If your camera has a microSD card slot instead of full-size SD, you will need a 64 GB microSDXC card instead.
- Write speed measures how quickly the card can accept new data. Some cards have a class number up to 10, which refers to write speed: a class 10 card will have a write speed of 10 MB per second. Many modern cards go even faster, which is useful for burst shooting or high resolution video.
