Air Rivet Gun
If you find yourself doing a lot of metalwork, either on the jobsite or at home, especially if you work with sheet metal often, then you need an also rivet gun. Also known as a pneumatic pop rivet gun, an air rivet gun is a handy tool to have in most work or home tool boxes.
How does an air rivet gun work?
Similar to air hammer or air nailer, an air rivet gun takes rivets and applies them to two pieces of metal to join them. There needs to be a hole drilled into each piece of metal, such as sheet metal or aluminium, that is the same size as the rivets. When the air rivet gun has rivets inserted, all you need to do is hold the two pieces of metal together, place the end of the gun over the hole, pull the trigger and the two pieces are riveted together. Done properly, the two pieces should be as strong as one single piece once all the rivets are in place.
What do you need to have when working with an air rivet gun?
There are some specific things you need to have on hand when working with an air rivet gun. Some of these items include:
- Air compressor
- Air line or hose
- Drill bits
- Air tool oil
Protect your eyes with safety glasses, especially when working with metal. Also, because you will likely be working with think pieces of metal, be sure to wear a pair of cut-resistant gloves to protect your hands.
