He was the first generation of the early Barossa German pioneers of South Australia, a winemaker who established the family winery in 1868. Johann Christian arrived as a skilled stonemason and wheelwright and planted his first vineyards in the high country of the picturesque Eden Valley.
Shiraz, growing on the fertile slopes in the Eden Valley region, is just one of those blessings. The quality of the grapes from this selection produced a wine that was too good to be declassified and warranted a separate bottling and limited release.
St Henri is rich and plush when young, gaining soft, earthy, mocha-like characters as it ages. That structure is furthered by a small amount of cabernet (nine percent of the blend in 2008). The wine layers red raspberry with darker fruit and black, earthen tannins, creating a tailored impression of elegance.
Producer: Two Hands Wines. "Assertive aromas, bursting with blackberry, bramble and white pepper. Glossy dark cherry, mulberry fruit with fresh acidity and fine tannins. A classy wine that brings to the fore the best attributes of McLaren Vale Shiraz.".
