Laptop Screens & LCD Panels

Laptop Screens and LCD Panels

Recover fast from the pain and horror of a crushed or damaged laptop screen or LCD panel by replacing it with another that works just as well. This collection of laptop parts from brands such as Acer, Samsung and Toshiba includes laptop housings and touchpads as well as screens, LCD panels and laptop replacement keyboards.

Screen Size

The size of your laptop screen or LCD panel, measured diagonally, affects its portability and your comfort level when using it. The 14-inch screen size offers the best of both worlds as it is easy to carry around but is still big enough not to strain your eyes. On the other hand, an 8.4-inch screen may be uncomfortable for your eyes, and a 17.3-inch screen is harder with which to travel.

Backlight Display Technology

Select the correct liquid crystal display (LCD) backlighting technology for your screen to ensure that it works. The older cold cathode fluorescent lamp LCD, or CCFL LCD, display uses fluorescent tubes and produces more heat, while the newer light-emitting diode (LED) LCD uses diodes and is more energy-efficient, using less battery power. Though they are both used in illuminating the images on the panel, the two technologies are not interchangeable, so make sure you get like-for-like when replacing them.

Screen Finish

A glossy screen finish is bright and colourful, reflecting light back, but may be uncomfortable outdoors because of its glare. Conversely, the matt finish is anti-glare, diffusing ambient light and is great for use in office settings or out of doors.

Caring for Your Laptop Screen or LCD Panel

Care for your laptop screen or LCD panel to ensure years of problem-free use. Clean it regularly by wiping it gently with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth or use a gentle cleaning solution. If you're an intrepid DIYer, you can repurpose your old screen by turning it into a second standalone desktop monitor or build a magic mirror that shows the weather forecast and even tells you the time.
