Christmas Tree Decorations

Part of the fun of the holidays is getting the family together to decorate the Christmas tree. Though decorations vary widely in design, colour and style, there are several categories into which many decorations fall. Whether you opt for a colourfully-decorated tree or a simple tree with fewer baubles, there are numerous ways to express your personality and decorate a festive tree for the Christmas season.

Christmas Tree Ornaments

One of the most common types of Christmas tree decorations are ornaments. Typically, ornaments attach to the tree via hooks or loops, and they come in a variety of sizes and styles. Some of the most common ornaments are balls, which are available in different colours, textures and sizes. Other popular ornament designs include snowflakes, reindeer, Santa Claus ornaments and snowman options, and ornaments are most often made of glass, plastic, ceramic, fabric or wood.

Christmas Tree Lights

Your tree can come to life with colourful, flashing Christmas lights. Christmas lights (also sometimes called twinkle lights or fairy lights) illuminate your tree with multiple colours or solid shades of red, white, blue or green. Bulbs vary in size and shape, as you can even purchase tree lights shaped like snowflakes or candy canes to accent your tree. Some lights can be programmed to blink or flash intermittently while others stay stationery.

Christmas Tree Toppers

No tree is complete without a tree topper. Traditionally, many people use a star or an angel on top of their Christmas tree, but there are many options from which to choose, such as bows, a Santa Claus, an animal or a pointed topper. Toppers come in many designs, and they can be made of glittering metal, glass or fabric. Choose a lighted topper that really stands out, or opt for a non-lighted topper that glitters or is made of metallic material for an attractive shimmer. Most toppers simply attach to the top of the tree, though some do secure with ties. Toppers come in assorted sizes depending on how large your tree is, and they pull the entire tree together to provide the perfect finishing touch.

Christmas Tree Skirts

A Christmas tree skirt has two functions. First, it covers the bottom of the tree if you have an artificial tree, and if you have a real tree, the tree skirt protects your floor from pine needles. A tree skirt is also decorative and gives you a spot to place presents. You can coordinate your tree skirt with your decorations for a polished look, and skirts are made of a variety of materials, including satin, faux fur, felt and cotton in many colours and designs.
