Dawn Clamps and Vices

Dawn has been building clamps, vices and other hand tools since 1917. Based in Melbourne, the company is Australian-owned and sells through distributors across the country.

Types of Clamp

Dawn’s range of home clamps and vices includes many different types of clamps suited for different tasks. These include the classic and versatile G-clamp, table clamps for use on a workbench, sash clamps for securing larger objects, such as floorboard, and spring clamps that can be applied quickly. Dawn’s clamps often include additional features that make them more versatile and easier to use. For example, their sash clamps feature reversible jaws that allow them to be used as clamps or as spreaders. Dawn sells clamps in a wide variety of sizes and load ratings.

Toggle Clamps

Toggle clamps have an important advantage over standard clamps. They feature a self-locking quick-release mechanism that uses a handle to engage and disengage the clamp. With no screws to turn, operator fatigue and clamping time are both reduced, making them an ideal choice for repetitive clamping and unclamping tasks. Their unique design eases tasks that would be difficult with standard clamps, and they can also be operated one-handed.

Dawn manufactures a range of home bench vices as well as heavier-duty models intended for machine shop use. Different types of vices are specialised for different tasks. Woodworking vices are built to accommodate wooden liners to avoid damaging the clamped piece of wood. Pipe vices use a chain that loops and tightens over the length of pipe to hold its round shape in place. Dawn vices are also available in different materials, including cast iron and stainless steel.

Dawn has been making clamps and vices for a century, so many collectable vices and clamps were made in their factories. Vintage tools can add atmosphere and history to your workshop or workbench.
