Another Step Up by Samsung

The Galaxy Note 7 ‘problem’ aside, Samsung does a pretty neat job of stepping up its smartphones’ design with each model upgrade. It listens to the issues users had with its previous models, and works to create something better in the following revision. With its Galaxy S6, Samsung did that again, working on making a better phone than the Galaxy S5 – but it also took a couple of tiny steps backwards as well. In terms of design, Samsung finally threw out the plastic used in the previous five Galaxy models, to introduce a sleek new glass and metal body on the Galaxy S6.

But to do that meant losing some of the awesome features the S5 did so well. Unlike the S5, the Galaxy S6 is not waterproof, it doesn’t offer expandable storage via a microSD slot, and its battery is non-removable. So, what does the S6 do to make up for that? Some features on offer include an improved fingerprint reader (great for the newly introduced Samsung Pay), and a handy new camera shortcut key. It was also released on a lovely slimmed-down version of Android 5.0 Lollipop, although nowadays, the S6 takes upgrades to the latest Android OS.

Standing up at 5.6 inches by 2.8 inches, the S6 packs in a 5.1-inch screen that is so crisp it hurts. With glorious colour and clarity, the AMOLED display on the S6 features 2,560x1,440 pixels at a density of 577 ppi, which seems especially impressive when compared to the iPhone 6’s 326ppi. As for its camera, yep, that’s good too. This 16 megapixel beauty not only has an upgraded aperture, it also has optical image stabilisation.
