Godox Universal Camera Flashes
Godox is a Chinese manufacturer of studio photographic lighting. The company has existed since 1993 but has only started gaining interest outside of China in the 2000s. The brand has also sold its products as OEM to companies such as Quantum. In particular, Godox universal camera flashes are compatible with any camera as well as ones only compatible with specific brands.TTL and E-TTL
Godox universal TTL camera flashes stand for 'Through the Lens'. This means that the flash uses the camera's onboard light metering to determine the appropriate level of light to send out in the flash. In other words, the flash sends out a smaller pre-flash burst of light. It then measures the light through the camera's metering system to determine how bright the actual flash should be. Options that specifically synch with digital cameras are Godox universal flashes with E-TTL.HSS
HSS stands for 'High Speed Sync'. Not all Godox flashes have this feature, but it may be one of interest. Flashes with HSS can effectively increase the shutter speed at which your camera will sync with the flash. Most cameras can only sync up to 1/250 of a second shutter speed. HSS flashes work with your camera to allow you to push the shutter speed faster to achieve different effects.Kits
Godox offers many of its camera flashes in kit form. That is, you can purchase a specific flash with some of helpful accessories. The most basic kits include the flash itself, battery, pack, charger and power cable, stand and pouch. Other kits include wireless remotes and even extra lamps for different effects.Accessories
For some amateur photographers, starting out with a mid-range flash such as a Godox is a good start. If you have the option, however, consider some Godox accessories that go with the flash you choose. Godox makes studio photography accessories including softboxes, light stands and photo umbrellas. You may find one or more may come in handy, even outside of the studio.
