Hitachi Battery Power Drills

Power drills are some of the most useful tools to have, and cordless, battery-powered models offer a lot of convenience. Hitachi Power Tools, a manufacturer of power tools for over 60 years, offers a range of cordless power drills and useful accessories.

Brushed vs. Brushless

Power drills come with either brushed or brushless motors. While brushless drills can be more expensive than Hitachi brushed power drills, they do offer a number of advantages. They are more efficient, meaning they use less power to rotate at the same speed. This allows users to drill more on one battery charge. In addition, because there aren't any carbon brushes that wear out in these motors, they do not need to be replaced. Lastly, brushless motors can be more compact in size. Hitachi brushless power drills use an electronic process called the 'Active Control System', or ACS, which intelligently adjusts settings to match different situations.

Drill Features

Most Hitachi cordless power drills use a multiple-stage adjustable clutch for precise adjustment. In addition, some models use a keyless chuck, making it easy to change drill bits. Moreover, users do not have to worry about misplacing the key. Some high-power models like the DS18DBL2(HX) include a safety system called 'Reactive Force Control' that reduces power as soon as the drill senses that the bit has locked.

Hitachi Batteries

Hitachi cordless tools, including power drills, use either Ni-Cd, Ni-MH or Li-ion batteries. The newer Li-ion batteries feature a multiple protection circuit that monitors the battery's cells. Besides providing overload protection by stopping the tool in case of a jam, this circuit also protects against over-charge and over-discharge, thereby improving the useful life of the battery. It is possible to replace the stock battery of some drills with a more powerful option as long as they are compatible. The capacity of these batteries is measured in amp hours (Ah), and Hitachi offers batteries from 1.5 Ah to a massive 6.0 Ah.

Hitachi Battery Chargers

Some Hitachi battery chargers are specifically for a single type of battery, while others can charge Li-ion, Ni-Cd or Ni-MH. In addition, Hitachi offers a rapid charger that can charge select batteries in less than 40 minutes. It features a cooling system to prevent damage due to overheating. In addition, the charger includes a USB port to charge electronic devices as well.
