Industrial Screws & Bolts

Industrial Screws And Bolts

Industrial screw and bolts are extremely important components of most buildings, machines, and other things like furniture or playground equipment. Choosing the right screws, nuts, and bolts for the job is very important, as doing so will help the job go smoothly, and will prevent problems down the track. There is plenty of confusing terminology out there, such as "anchor bolts" and "lag bolts", but what in the world do things like this mean?

What Sort of Screws and Bolts Are Out There?

There are a lot of different types of screws and bolts on the market, and choosing the right kind can be difficult. Some of the most popular types include:

  • Grub screws- Grub screws are for very specific purposes where the head of the screw can't be protruding past the hole. They generally fit using allen keys, and choosing the right size is essential.
  • Hex head screws- These are what is usually known as bolts, and they generally fasten two things together. They are not self tapping, and require a hole to fit in and a nut to screw on the end.
  • Tek screws- Tek screws are the handyman's best friend. They are probably the most popular type of self tapping screws, they can work with almost any material, and they are very easy to use.
  • Button head screws- Button head screws are probably the most popular type of screw, and would be what you think of when you hear the word 'screw'. They are usually pretty small, they can be self tapping, and they usually require a screwdriver for installation.
  • Bugle head screws - These are mainly for building, construction, and carpentry. The shape of their head allows them to screw into wooden or metal surfaces so that they lie flush with the surface.

What Size Should I Choose?

Once you have chosen what type of screw you need, you need to think about the size you need:

  • Think about what you are joining.
  • How long do you need the screw to be?
  • Is there a hole already, or do you need a self tapping screw?
  • Do you need high quality stainless steel screws, or will cheaper ones do the job?
