But with so many different types of fibres on the market today, how do you know which one is right for you? First, it is important to understand what a cotton thread count is, and why so many people are drawn to different types.
What is a cotton thread count?
A cotton thread count (TC) simply refers to how many threads are woven into one square inch of fabric. The higher the thread count, the softer and more flexible the sheets are (generally speaking.) This is why pure Egyptian cotton is so famous for its softness, as it comes in higher thread counts than sateen, for example.
Unless you are an expert, you won’t notice the difference in quality when the TC is greater than 350.
Types of fabrics
Quilts come in a variety of material, such as Egyptian cotton, linen, flannel, silk, polyester, and blends of cotton/rayon. If you’re looking for a luxurious style, you can’t go past Egyptian cotton or silk. If you prefer durable, breathable and soft fabrics, opt for linen or blends. In winter, flannel works best as it traps your body heat, so you get that snuggly-warm feeling.
