Mens Mechanical Wristwatches
There are few accessories that add a touch of class to a mans outfit like an analogue wristwatch. However, mechanical watches in particular add an extra layer of elegance that is hard to match, which is why they are often the choice of todays stylish man. Benefits are aplenty with this type of watch, and so are the choices.
Why Go Mechanical?
While quartz watches are cheaper and more plentiful, mechanical watches are meticulously handcrafted and elegantly designed to give their wearers a classy look. Many vintage and antique mechanical watches are also pieces of history that one can wear on their wrist. Mechanical watches run without a battery and with proper care, can last a long time, if not a lifetime.
Types of Mechanical Wristwatches
Generally, mechanical wristwatches divide into two types: manual and automatic. Manual mechanical wristwatches need periodical winding in order to maintain the speed of the mechanism that keeps the hands moving, so that the time shown is accurate. Automatic mens wristwatches can self-wind through the kinetic hand movements of the wearer, which makes them easier to maintain. Automatic watches tend to be heavier than manual ones due to the additional hardware that goes into them.
Stainless Steel or Leather Straps?
While there are watch bands that use other materials, popular models usually incorporate either stainless steel watch bands or leather straps. Stainless steel bands tend to be heavier and more durable than leather bands, but often lack the elegance brought by the latter. Leather bands are also more comfortable to wear, though do note that if damaged, the band has to be replaced in its entirety.
Brands and Features
Famous bands for mens mechanical watches include Seiko, TAG Heuer, Tissot, Rado, Casio and of course, Rolex, among many others. As for features, look out for extra features that can add value to the watch, such as date indicators, chronographs, moon phase indicators, rotating bezels, and luminous hands.
