Other Home Furniture

New year, new you, new furniture…? According to the experts at the 2018 Milan Furniture Fair, now is the time to brighten up your home with a new look by adding pops of colour and a touch of flair through the inclusion of other home furniture besides the run of the mill necessities (bed, lounge, dining table, etc.).

The Many Shades of Red

Strong colours were on show in Milan, but the front runner was definitely the many shades of red, from watermelon through to rust. These bright colours work great as a showpiece, with the inclusion of  red home furniture such as a room divider, plant stand or a vintage item such as a bookshelf.

Kitchens Are Back in Black

When it comes to kitchens, “black is the new white”, alongside a particular emphasis on contrasting the dark tones with the inclusion of vivid green plants. If you want to spruce up an existing space without doing anything too drastic, other black furniture for the kitchen includes items such as storage chests or canisters for the bench, decorative wrought iron hooks for the walls and black steel shelves as an extension of the pantry.

Get Cosy and Comfortable

Another popular trend was to  move away from the stiff industrial looking furniture back towards plush comfort. This look is seen in a lot of the Ikea home furniture range for the lounge room, with chaise lounges, fat cushions and low stuffed footstools are remaining popular catalogue items.
