Measuring Cups, Jugs & Spoons

Perfect Your Cooking and Baking with Measuring Cups, Spoons, and Jugs

When following a recipe, exact measurements are often very important. But, unless you are an experienced cook or baker, it can be hard to get this right just by feel. This is where measuring cups, spoons, and jugs can help.

Choosing measuring cups

Whether you are a baking expert or a complete kitchen novice, measuring cups are a must. Being able to quickly portion out your ingredients saves you time and helps you follow your recipes to the letter. Well-designed measuring cups can also help you work cleaner, minimising mess and spills.

Generally, measuring cups will come as a set of four. This will usually include four different sized measures: 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup. This covers the standard measures required by most recipes and means the cups can be used for both wet and dry ingredients.

When picking a measuring cup set, the main thing you need to choose is the material they are made from. Common options are stainless steel, copper, plastic, silicone, and glass, and each of these has their benefits. For example, metals are usually more hardwearing, and plastic products often come in a wider range of colours and designs.

Measuring spoons and measuring jugs

Depending on what you are making, getting your recipe right may require more than just measuring cups. For example, if you are using spices, you may need measuring spoons to portion out smaller amounts. Conversely, if a large amount of liquid is called for, you may require a measuring jug.

While it is possible to buy both measuring jugs and spoons separately, they are often included in measuring sets. Just like measuring cups, they can be made from a range of materials and come in fun colours and designs. This means you can get matching cups, spoons, and jugs – or you can mix-n-match – the choice is yours!

It is also possible to get complete baking and cooking sets. In addition to all the measuring tools, these sets usually include mixing bowls and other cooking utensils, like baking trays and cake tins.
