Sigma Wide Angle Lens for Sony
Sigma produces a wide variety of camera lenses compatible with various camera manufacturers, including Sony. Their range includes several different wide-angle lenses compatible with Sony’s A or E mounts.Wide Angles
A wide-angle lens is any lens with a focal length significantly shorter than standard. On a full frame camera, this typically means any lens with a focal length of 35 millimetres or less. Ultra-wide angle lenses are even shorter, typically below 24 millimetres on full frame. The shorter the focal length, the wider the field of view becomes. Wide-angle lenses are especially popular in landscape photography as they allow the photographer to capture an entire vista in a single shot. They can also be used effectively indoors where you might not be able to back up far enough to capture everything with a standard lens. There is a small selection of wide-angle Sigma lenses for Sony cameras at a variety of focal lengths.Sigma Wide-Angle Zoom Lenses
Most of Sigma’s wide-angle camera lenses are zoom lenses. Sigma’s Sony-compatible wide-angle zoom lenses include the ultra-wide 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM and the 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 DG HSM II. Because the focal length changes, wide angle zoom lenses can produce a wider or longer field of view depending on the effect that you want your picture to achieve. This makes them very versatile and also takes up less space in your kit bag than carrying a wide lens and an ultra-wide lens.Sigma Wide-Angle Prime Lenses
Sigma also makes a small selection of wide angle prime lenses. Only one of these, the 19mm F2.8 DN | A, is natively compatible with Sony cameras, in this case those using the Sony E-mount. However, the Sigma mount version of the 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art can be adapted for Sony cameras using Sigma’s Mount Converter MC-11. Prime lenses typically offer higher image quality as they have fewer glass elements in front of the sensor. They also have larger maximum apertures that let in more light, useful for indoor photography.Sigma Fisheye
As well as regular wide angle lenses, Sigma also makes some fisheye lenses for Sony cameras. Fisheye lenses are effectively a specialised type of wide-angle lens with a curved front element that gives photographs a unique kind of distortion. The only current Sony-compatible fisheye lens from Sigma is the 4.5mm F2.8 EX DC HSM Circular Fisheye. This extremely short lens produces a circular image and its 5.3-inch minimum focusing distance makes it perfect for extreme closeup shots.
