Snooker, Pool & Billiards Tables

Snooker, Pool and Billiards Tables

Show off your sharpshooting skills with a cue and balls by investing in a snooker, pool or billiards table. Whether for casual playing when you're entertaining on the weekends or to practise for competitive play, having a pool table at home is a great excuse to invite people over, and beats the smoke-filled atmosphere in pubs where you may sometimes need to queue to play.

Playfield Bed Material

Consider a slate pool table if you have the pocket for a professional-looking table bed that does not warp or wear and lasts a lifetime. Slate's smooth surface also gives snooker, pool and billiard balls the best glide. However, slate is very heavy and requires a sturdy, solid timber frame to support it. On the other hand, playfield beds made from particle board or medium density fibreboard (MDF) are easier on the pocket, but have a shorter lifespan because they are affected by the elements. They also do not offer a smooth rolling surface for the balls.

Snooker, Pool and Billiard Table Sizes

Select the pool table size that fits into your chosen spot. Standard pool tables come in 7-foot, 8-foot and 9-foot sizes. Since snooker, pool and billiards tables usually measure twice as long as they are wide, the 7-foot table provides a playing area that measures 99 centimetres wide and 198 centimetres long.

Making Room for a Snooker, Pool and Billiards Table in Your Home

Take into account the bulky size of the snooker or pool table and where you plan to place it in your home before purchase. The ideal clearance for comfortable playing should be 1.5 metres around all sides. Therefore, if your pool table measures 2.14 metres by 1.07 metres, then the ideal room size should be at least 4.9 metres by 3.8 metres to accommodate it.
