Sony DVD Players

Sony, a company founded in 1946, is a leading manufacturer of consumer and business-class electronics, and DVD players are no exception. Sony also produces consumer electronics from gaming systems to mobile phones to cameras and recorders to audio equipment, televisions and DVD players, and is a highly desired brand in each of those categories.

Sony DVD Player Types

Sony manufactures DVD players in two broad categories: Sony Xvid DVD and Blu-ray players and traditional DVD players. Although DVD and Blu-ray discs look almost identical to the naked eye, there are many subtle differences that may dramatically impact one's choice between the two. Blu-ray discs are slightly thicker, utilise a different laser technology, feature higher resolution and offer gigabytes of storage rather than megabytes. However, these improvements come at a cost, and Blu-ray technologies are generally more expensive than DVD options.

Sony Blu-ray DVD Players

Sony manufactures many Blu-ray DVD players with many different options, which include Sony JPEG DVD and Blu-ray players. The highest end of Sony's Blu-ray players offer visuals in 4K HD, an ultra-high resolution. Others offer 4K upscaling to lower resolution images. There are both wired and wireless options, which can stream online videos as well as play Blu-ray discs and DVDs.

Sony Traditional DVD Players

Sony's line of traditional DVD players is relatively small, including only a few options. These come with capabilities to upscale image quality of DVD movies into HD, even if the film was shot in traditional resolutions; a slim and lightweight case design; and improved playback options.

Sony DVD Player Accessories

Sony produces many accessories and peripherals for the Blu-ray and traditional DVD player lines. These include speaker arrangements, audio tuners and Sony-produced DVDs and Blu-ray discs. VGA-to-HDMI cables can be a fantastic accessories to help older models connect with newer televisions, and specialised mounts can help hold the players alongside wall-mounted televisions.
