Sony Xperia Z5 Mobile Phones

The Sony Xperia Z5 is the last model in the Xperia Z series. Launched in 2015, reviews praised it for its high-performance camera and display.

Xperia Z5

The Sony Xperia Z5 was released in September 2015, replacing the earlier Z3+. It launched alongside two similar smartphones, the scaled-down Xperia Z5 Compact and the upgraded Xperia Z5 Premium, the first smartphone ever released with a 4K screen. It is also the final model in Sony’s Xperia Z series of mobile phones. In 2016, Sony announced that they would cease developing future Xperia Z phones, preferring to focus on the Xperia X line instead. The Xperia Z5 is an Android smartphone and it released with Android’s 5.1 Marshmallow and has since been upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Sony Xperia Z5 built on the success of earlier Sony mobile phones like the Sony Xperia Arc S to deliver high and consistent performance. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with a speedy octa-core processor comprising four 1.5GHz and four 2.0GHz cores, as well as 3 gigabytes of RAM. The phone is powered by a sizeable 2900mAh lithium ion battery that offers over 500 hours of standby time. Its 32 gigabytes of internal storage could be supplemented with a microSD card for extra space.

At time of launch, Sony announced that the Xperia Z5 had the best camera of any of their smartphones. Its statistics are certainly impressive. The Z5 features a 1/2.3-inch sensor rated at 23 megapixels, almost twice the number offered by many of the other flagship smartphones on the market at the time. In front of the sensor is a 24mm, f/2 lens with an advanced autofocus system for user-friendly point-and-shoot performance. Its consistently high performance across light levels and excellent 4K video capabilities were praised by reviewers, and the range of camera apps available makes it easy for users to choose the one that best suits them.

Design and Display

The Xperia Z5 is a hybrid design that combines an aluminium frame with a frosted glass back and weighs in at 154 grams. The body is sealed up tightly enough for it to achieve an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Its 5.2-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen features an impressive 1080 by 1920p resolution with pixel density of 428 pixels per inch, giving the Z5 clear, crisp visuals with plenty of dynamic range. The display also features multi-touch support for up to 10 fingers, as well as a scratch-resistant and oleophobic coating that keeps scratches and fingerprints at bay.
