Timber Queen Beds and Bed Frames
A good bed frame is one of the most essential pieces of household furniture. A timber queen bed frame is a very versatile piece with options to suit most households and sleepers.Queen Size Beds
Definitions vary a little around the world, but an Australian queen size measures 153 by 203 centimetres, comfortably bigger than a single bed or double bed but narrower than a king size. The queen has long since eclipsed the double bed as the favoured bed size for couples and is also a good option for singles who like some extra sprawling room. The reduced width also makes it a better fit for smaller spaces than a king, perfect if you have a smaller bedroom or a lot of other bedroom furniture to fit around it.Timber Furniture
Timber is a very popular material for making furniture and bed frames are no exception. Properly treated timber furniture is strong and durable without necessarily being excessively heavy. It is also extremely versatile in terms of appearance. Timber can be painted or varnished in an almost limitless range of colours and finishes to suit the rest of your furniture and decor. Different types of wood also have their own natural colours and their natural grain patterns ensure that each piece of furniture is unique. Pine is widely used due to its light weight and affordability but many other different types of wood are also commonly used including beech, oak and walnut.Frame Styles
Queen size bed frames come in a range of shapes and styles. The classic four legged bed frame is still a popular option but there are also more exotic designs available such as canopy beds, sleigh beds and platform beds. Storage beds and ottoman beds are popular in small spaces as they provide a large amount of storage space beneath the frame as well as a place to sleep. Some bed frames can also be personalised using optional headboards and footboards. While these are more typically built using smaller frames, some manufacturers even make queen size bunk beds.Mattresses
Queen size bed frames are best used with queen size mattresses. Mattresses are typically either spring mattresses, in which support is provided by small springs, or memory foam mattresses that compress to form to the shape of your body. There are also coil mattresses, which use a single coil of wire, and latex mattresses which feature a multi-layered latex core. Comfort is at least partly a matter of personal taste: some people prefer springs while others swear by foam or latex. However, memory foam mattresses tend to be warmer than others, while coil and pocket spring mattresses have more bounce.
