Carton Sealing Tapes

Carton Sealing Tapes

Cardboard boxes are by far one of the most efficient ways to move or send packages to different parts of the country. However, these boxes would not be too useful if you did not seal them properly. A good carton sealing tape makes this job easy and ensures that your goods are safe in transit. When purchasing carton tape, consider its length, width, design and adhesive system.

Material

The film carrier of the carton sealing tape could be paper, PVC or polypropylene. Paper tapes are perfect for sealing carton corners, irregular surfaces and edges. They are biodegradable and recyclable, so the best option if you want an environmentally-friendly tape. The backing and the adhesive system of the tape may be silicone-release coating, something you often find on high-end paper tapes, acrylic adhesive or hot melt adhesive system. Acrylic is best for storage, while hot melt is the best choice for shipping. Water-based adhesive systems are common for low-noise carton sealing tapes.

Designs

Typically, the backing of the carton tape is clear or tan in colour. However, the sealing tapes can have various printed patterns on them, or you could opt for carton sealing tapes with pre-printed text. The latter may include useful warnings, such as "fragile" or "handle with care." Colourful designs may also come in handy if you want to distinguish between different boxes and sort your things when moving.

Widths and Lengths

Ideally, the tape should be wide enough to be able to close the cardboard box securely. Generally, it is safer to purchase a wider tape. The tapes come in rolls, and you can cut out the required length. However, you do need to check how many metres each roll has to be able to plan how many you need for your packing.

Tape Types

Generally, carton sealing tapes fall into two major categories: light-duty and extra-heavy-duty. Your choice of tape depends on the purpose and the weight of your boxes. For smaller boxes that weigh up to 10 kg, the light-duty is more than sufficient. If the boxes are really heavy and weigh 25 kg or more, consider extra-heavy-duty or premium grade tape. As you need to wrap that tape all around the box, you need to ensure that it holds.
