Vans is an American brand mainly known for their shoes. Vans shoes are mostly considered skateboarding shoes with distinct flat, rubber soles for maximum contact and stability when on a skateboard. The history of Vans starts back in the year 1966 when Paul and Jim Van Doren opened a shoe selling business in Anaheim, California. On their first day of opening, they sold 12 pairs of shoes and the company grew from there. Over time, Vans introduced new shoe designs to their collection, all of them still based on the flat rubber soles of the original designs. As the shoes were marketed for skateboarders from the get go, Vans updated their designs for the comfort of skateboarders.
