Window Decorations

Different than the decor that window treatments or window curtains bring, window decorations allow you to add cheer and joy to your windows. You can easily add Christmas decorations to your windows or embellishments for other holidays throughout the year. Window decorations are safe and fun for kids to affix as well.

Holiday Embellishments

There are many different types of holiday embellishments you can put on the windows. Look for cheery themes that also match decorative door accessories to complete a look. Look for ornament-shaped or Christmas tree decorations for Christmas, pumpkin and ghost-shaped decorations for Halloween, and Easter eggs and bunnies for Easter. These holiday embellishments may be gel stick-ons that can be removed and reapplied year after year or you may choose window clings (which are also reusable).

Stained Glass Ideas

For in between months when it’s not the holidays, you may want to jazz up your windows with other decor ideas. Stained glass hangings are an interesting embellishment. You can choose window clings or gel stick-ons, such as with your holiday decorations, or buy a stained glass (or plastic) kit to make decorations from scratch yourself. Stained glass ornament making is also extremely fun for kids and is a great idea for a rainy day.

Privacy Options

There are some window decorations more geared toward privacy than decor. Perhaps you have a small window that doesn’t have a blind or curtain that quite fits it, or an interior door with a window you’d like to add privacy to. Look for window embellishments that are opaque film. These film pieces attach easily to the back of windows and offer privacy so that others can not directly see in. They do allow light to pass through so the room is not dark.

Other Decorations

Other window decorations include suncatchers and dreamcatchers which you can hang from the inside of the window or find a gel or cling sticker that produces the same light effect. Hanging prisms from windows is also a neat idea, as the sun will catch the prism and create a rainbow every time. You can also add privacy film to windows in multiple colours so that you can have a little privacy while adding a touch of decor.
