As Eddie Albert used to say in the aspirin commercial, "It's orange!" Orange is halfway between red and yellow on the spectrum; an exciting color, one worn by test pilots and astronauts, whose flight suits were bright orange because of its high visibility -- the same reason we see orange traffic cones. Orange is the color of sunsets, of Buddhist robes, and of course of oranges. Orange is an autumn color, reminding us as it does of bonfires, of pumpkins and Halloween and also of the Reformation, which began on Halloween in 1517, so it stands to reason that orange is also the color of Protestantism. It is the national color of the Netherlands, thanks mostly to the Protestant King William of Orange, who ruled from 1672 to 1702. None of which has much to do with clothes, but orange can have a place in a gentleman's wardrobe, even if he is not a test pilot or a Buddhist monk. Just remember - a little orange goes a long way.
