Does it Matter Where My Makita Tool is Made?

I receive allot of questions asking me "Where is this tool made?", "Is this Japanese or Chinese?", to tell you truth..... it really doesn't matter. Makita have factories all over the world. Each individual factory produces certain tools (depending what machines they have). Each factory has the exact same stringent quality control..

Many myths exist about Makita and I'm writing this to bust them once and for all!

Myth 1: If my Makita has "Made in China" it must be an inferior tool or a Makita copy.

Fact: China has one of the most state of the art factories. All of the Makita tools are tested and do not leave the factory unless they meet Makita's high standards.

Myth 2: Real Makita tools come from Japan.

Fact: Wrong! Makita tools are produced all over the world. Japan, China, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Germany and the UK. Each individual factory produces different tools.

Some other Makita related myths I can bust along the same lines are;

Myth 3: Buying tools from America is cheaper than buying tools from Australia.

Fact: Sometimes. Buying Makita from America may seem like a good idea at the time but there are a few things you should be aware of before you do. Your warranty WILL NOT be valid in Australia. Makita Australia do not recognise foreign serial numbers. Any repairs that are to be claimed under warranty will need to be sent back to the US at your own cost! You can have them fixed here however you will have to pay.

The voltages are not the same. US = 110V, AUS = 240V. The tools Makita produce are made for specific countries. Using a step down transformer will only damage your power tool and basically half the life!

You will not fine the "C-Tick" on any tool not made for Australia. The Compliance mark is something that proves the object is safe for Australian conditions.

Myth 4: Makita tools aren't as strong as they used to be.

Fact: Makita tools are one of the best trade tools in the world. They come with a 12 Month Trade warranty. They are made for use ALL DAY EVERY DAY on the job site and will stand up to enormous amounts of punishment. It's not uncommon for you to have a Makita tool for 10-20 years..
