Government, transit, and postage-related items policy

For public safety and security reasons, we don’t allow the listing of most government, mass transit, and postage-related items – such as uniforms and internal documents – on eBay. However, there are a few exceptions, for example if the item couldn’t be mistaken for something in present day use by an official organization. Please see our full policy guidelines below for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I list a vintage uniform?

Most vintage clothing or uniforms from commercial airlines, transit, or postal companies – including accessories like bags, hats and ties – can be listed, as long as the seller meets all of the following conditions:

  • The item is 10 years old or older
  • It's no longer used by any airline, postal carrier, transportation company or entity operating subways, trains, or buses
  • It doesn't look like current uniforms or accessories

If your vintage uniform doesn't meet all those requirements you won't be able to list it.

Tip
Current airline and public transport uniforms can't be sold on eBay.

Government, transit, and postage-related items policy overview

To support the government and the transit industry's efforts in ensuring public safety, we don't allow most government, mass transit, and postage-related items, including uniforms and internal documents. These items are also often subject to federal or state regulations which either ban or restrict their sale.

There are a few items, though, that can be sold on eBay. See our guidelines below for more details. Please also visit our Travel policy for rules relating to travel services.

Make sure your listing follows these guidelines. If it doesn't, it may be removed, and you may be subject to a range of other actions, including restrictions of your buying and selling privileges and suspension of your account.

Why does eBay have this policy?

There are strict government regulations banning or restricting the sale of government, transit and postage-related items. Along with buyers and sellers on eBay, we have to comply with those regulations. So most of these items can't be listed on eBay.
