In the 80s, wrestling events were like rock concerts. Fans flocked to arenaas ro experience the excitement of World Class Championship Wrestling. But, jusr as quickly as it rose in popularity, WCCW burnt out through a series of traumatic losses. Now, it's time to go old school, back to the glory days of the WCCW. For those who know, this is a trip down memory lane with the likes of the Von Erich Brothers and the Freebirds. For those who don't, this is an education in professional wrestling history that features some of the sport's most legendary bouts. Many of the greatest names in the game got their start in the WCCW, and fans will be able to see firsthand the likes of Jerry Lawler, Ric Flair, and Bruiser Brody in their prime. This collection might be a blast from the past, but still thrills with high-flying, body-slamming glory. Here is a unique chance to revisit a one-of-a-kind organization. This is also a great way to remember the likes of the Von Erichs, Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams and others. This DVD also makes a fine companion piece to the DVDs about 'The Spectacular Legacy Of The AWA', 'The Rise And Fall Of WCW' and 'The Rise And Fall Of ECW', providing brilliant insights into how a wrestling promotion succeeds, only to eventually crumble under the weight of its own popularity. WCCW will never be forgotten.Read full review
This DVD is quite possibly the crown jewel of my wrestlong collection. Anyone who watched World Class Championship Wrestling back in the day, knows that it had some of the most gifted and talented personalities on the face of the planet both in the ring and on the mic. WCCW will be remembered for it's talent, it's drama and it's exciting ring work and storylines. The Von Erich Family has gone down in the history books as one of, if not THE greatest family in Professional Wrestling History. In knowing how important the Von Erichs were, and still are and knowing the tragedy that many fans call "The Von Erich Curse" I often refer to them as Wrestling's equivilant of the Kennedy Family. This DVD starts with Kevin Von Erich, who is the only one of the famed Von Erich Brothers who is still alive, talking about his father Fritz. Discussing the childhood of himself and his brothers, Kevin reveals what most fans never knew, that he had another brother, Jack Jr. who passed away in a tragic childhood accident that took place at Niagra Falls. The chapter stops along the way are basically self explanitory and are as follow. Texas Rasslin', Fritz, The Boys, Fritz Retires, Innovative Television, The Sportatorium, Enter the Fabulous Freebirds, Young Superstars, Freebirds - Von Erich feud, The Death of David Von Erich, Von Erich Dream Realized, Chris Adams Good Friend Better Enemy, Mike Von Erich in Critical Condition, Lance Von Erich, Gino Hernandez / Chris Adams, Fabulous Freebirds, Withdrawal from NWA, Kerry's Motorcycle Accident, Mike Commits Suicide, Fritz has a 'Heart Attack', Ken Mantell, Superclash III, Jerry Jarrett Buys WCCW, Kerry goes to WWF, Kevin Quits Wrestling, Chris Commits Suicide, Kerry Commits Suicide, A Curse?, Remembering World Class. The documentary covers everything about WCCW including all of the above, and also the Von Erich Brothers taking the lead as the top wrestlers in the company, bringing in stars like Abdullah the Butcher, Kamala, The Missing Link, the Fabulous Freebirds, Chris Adams, Bruiser Brody and others, along with WCCW main stays like Bill Irwin and The Great Kabuki. The DVD is loaded with interviews from Kevin Von Erich, Mick Foley, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Bill Irwin, Skandor Akbar, Dory Funk Jr., The Fabulous Freebirds, Verne Gagne, Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross and the last on camera interview of Gary Hart. There are archival interviews with Fritz, Kerry and others along with plenty of classic WCCW footage. All in all this is a wonderful DVD, and as I said before is possibly the crown jewel of my collection. Brought back some great memories for me. I love old school! My only disappointment with this DVD is that there were no interviews from Taker or Steve Austin. They both started in World Class. Other than that, I really enjoyed seeing the Freebirds again, as well as the almighty Von Erich clan. Good stuff!
Was nice to get an inside look at World Class and the politics involved. I remember watching it as a kid, so it brought back soem memories. It would have been nicer to interview more people that just the ones that are involved in WWE, but still a good dvd..
