I know the album well, I've been listening to it since 1967. Lately I have become re-obsessed with the "Beano Tone" and did a deep dive into available information. It was recommended to me to seek out this direct-from-master-tapes version of the album to highlight some facts about the recording. With careful listening it is possible to hear that the magic tone was very much influenced by the recording environment and in fact Clapton himself did not get this sound when playing live. There are live recordings to illustrate that as well. You can hear how the amp was pointed at the wall and covered with blankets to control the volume somewhat since Clapton refused to turn it down for the session. This is the sound we have come to revere. A lot of detail was inaudible on previous versions of the album both on vinyl and on earlier CDs. This reveals more of the true sound of the sessions and that is why I bought it. If you are seeking to understand the legendary Beano Tone or just want to hear a much better quality version of this album, this is the way to go.
