  • Cosmos is out of this world

I watched this series back in 1980/81 and loved it. I've always been fascinated by all things space-related from a very early age, and I was (still am) a huge fan of The Sky at Night. Whereas SaN focused on one topiceach show, Carl Sagan's Cosmos told the whole story - how the universe began, where it was at at the time, and where it is going. It was fascinating stuff and Sagan was so engaging. Having watched it again, it is no less fascinating or engaging. It still captures the imagination and fills the viewer with awe an the enormity of the universe and all within it. Obviously, some of its content is out of date, simply because space travel and exploration has progressed immensely since 1980, but it is no less fascinating because of that. What the passage of time does allow the watcher to do is consider what Sagan said back then against where we are now, and compare the changes and - perhaps startlingly - the things that haven't changed, or what Sagan accurately predicted. To be completely fair to this boxset, it has been updated with new theories and discoveries,as much as it can, which is great to see. I am so thrilled to have been able to acquire a copy of this brilliant series - it has been an absolute pleasure to watch again, and I will sit my grnadchildren down to watch it, too, when the right time comes.

  • Inspiring! Recommend wholeheartedly!

I had heard Prof Brian Cox recently discussing on the radio how the COSMOS series of programmes by Carl Sagan had inspired him to become a scientist in general and a physicist in particular. I am also a research scientist (a biologist) but never had the chance to watch the series when it came out. I am doing this now, and I must say that I find the episodes very interesting, the historical reconstructions very informative, and Carl Sagan very engaging. You don't get the feeling that the series is at all dated! I am also watching the episodes with my child. We are fascinated!

  • The legendary production of the award winning show from 1980.

The legendary production of the award winning show from 1980. The original chromakey has been addressed and this makes for a better viewing experience. Vangelis' music transports one back to a more civilised age. An engaging and wonderful piece of work. Highly recommended.

  • Science at it's best!

In an age of Internet stupidity, this is a gem of Science and knowledge. It got me interested in physics and computers at an early age when shown on TV and still gives me a warm feeling when watching it today. The graphics may be a little stilted in comparison to current technology but the scientific content is sound and Carl Sagan's sense of wonder and enthusiasm shine through. Coupled with a haunting and beautiful soundtrack from Vangelis it's entertaining viewing

  • The Original And The Best

Until you've heard Carl Sagan pronounce; "figure it out" and "books", you haven't truly enjoyed the English language. One or two notions which haven't stood the test of time, but who cares when you can immerse yourself with something of this quality. Right up there with The Ascent Of Man and Civilisation.

  • 1980s astronomy brilliantly presented and remains relevant

Classic eighties science series hosted by the best astronomer (well apart from Patrick Moore) I have come across to communicate the joy and wonder of our universe This is a brilliant intro to the subject still Highly recommended

  • Whilst I originally bought this for my brother in law it was given on the express condition that he let me watch it.

An absolute must for those interested in the spiritual mechanics of our universal existence - thought provoking and stimulating - if the world could attempt to understand these deceptively simple concepts it would be a far better place to dwell. Do yourself a favour, put the PSX boxes away and engage the family in something infinitely more enlightening this Christmas....a timeless classic

I saw this series on television when it first came out in 1980. It is still fresh and relevant today, and the price was great value.
