Synopsis
"For sheer adventure L'Amour is in top form."-- Kirkus Reviews Here is the kind of authentically detailed epic novel that has become Louis L'Amour's hallmark. It is the compelling story of U.S. Air Force Major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness. Only one route lies open to Mack: the path of his ancestors, overland to the Bering Strait and across the sea to America. But in pursuit is a legendary tracker, the Yakut native Alekhin, who knows every square foot of the icy frontier--and who knows that to trap his quarry he must think like a Sioux.

Item took too long to get shipped. I had a tracking number 6 days before item was given to post office. Once the usps had the package it arrived quickly. Item was as described and was packed very well. Customer service was responsive. If I knew that seller took so long to ship I would not have bought item from them. Nowhere does it say on the sellers site that they take 5-7 days to ship. That is rediculous. Anyhow. The old tape deck i bought works. Once belts are replaced it should be good.

Excellent seller! Item arrived in described condition shipped by FedEx on the date projected (3 days). Item was extremely well packaged in a Ziploc bag inside of a custom formed cushion wrap style bubble wrap, in a cardboard box. Great price for a great item in great condition!

    A Great Native American

I have read several Louis L'Amour's book. They were all about the Old West, cowboys and pioneers. Interesting reading about various trails cattle ranchers took their cow to market. This one, however, is about one Joe Mack, US Air Force Major. He was an outstanding pilot and was flying an experimental plane when shot down by the Russians. He was questioned and later escaped into the forest and mountains in Siberia. Joe was a Native American raised by his Grandfather who had a Scots background. His mother was Sioux Indian. He lived in the mountains of Utah not far from the Utah/Washington line. Joe spent most of his early years outdoors and was a student of the rugged , mountain life. After escaping from a Russian prison he spent almost two years living in forests and mountains ...

  • Tale of a Native American Air Force Pilot shot down over Siberia, and his journey to freedom.

Good non-western writing by a western author

  • Intense challenges for a determined man

Louis L'amour is a fabulous writer who can tell a story in a very compelling manner. He takes the reader with the leading character on an "impossible" journey through the most challenging country in which survival is not at all certain. You'll find yourself rooting for "Last of the Breed".

  • Adventure

A much different story line from Mr, LAmour. Amazing tale of survival in the frozen tundra. Simple good vs. evil and how the main character deals with adversity. A great read!
