Skies of Arcadia is the best RPG game on Sega Dreamcast (sorry Phantasy Star Online). It feels similar to Panzer Dragoon Saga on the Sega Saturn, only with a much more bright and sunny graphics and colorful storyline. Unlike Panzer Dragoon Saga, Skies of Arcadia does not feature full videos or voice acting (instead using subtitles). However, Skies of Arcadia is a compelling game in its own right. It offers a unique world with space pirates who fly around on a magical ship through the clouds. The battle system is turn based, but with many unique gameplay features and magic power ups. Overall, one of the best Dreamcast games and a must for any RPG fan.

This received 5 stars because of the gameplay, graphics and difficulty of the game. In many places the game was tough but yet exiting to play due to its toughness. The challenge it took with patience and good strategy to advance through the game. Skies Of Arcadia deserves its place among the best RPG'S of all time. Gameplay, toughness, strategy, graphics, and turn based show it's credibility and respect of a great RPG for the Sega Dreamcast. It Is for sure a 5 star rated game. Highly recommend those who love strategy turned based RPG games.

It's weird that it wants me to review the graphics and gameplay for a 24 year old Dreamcast game. This game is a core memory in my life and it helped determine a lot of the decisions I have made in my life. Skies of Arcadia is the type of game where you either know it and love or you don't know it and don't care. There's really no in-between. Anyway, I appreciate you parting with your copy for me, my friend, and I am happy to say that it arrived safe and sound and just as intact as you had promised. I intend to play these disks, but they will be taken care of in a way I didn't do with my own copy when I was younger. Cheers, and thank you. :)

This game is really fun, it has alot of characters with interesting backgrounds. The concept is fantastic. I also enjoyed a very interesting storyboard. The best part of the game has to do with the graphics. The graphics usually don't make the game but in this case they do. The character models are vivid and fluid, surpassing the gamecube version in some aspects. It is what truly makes the game fun, especially in 640x480 dpi. Any HD-TV monitor capable setup will show the artistic rendering of the Dreamcast at its height, with bumpmapping and without the fake cartoony stylizations the gamecube version brings you. The character models on this version appear more life-like with depth (although its really just a matter of preference.) On top of that, the sound is accurately ported. Do not settle for a hacked version because Echelon released this game with random pauses and glitches. The game itself has a real feel for its environment, a tremendous 3d world to navigate around. You can either find all the secrets or not, once you do it gives you an option of looking for adventures with massive full scale ship battles. Def. worth checking out.Read full review
The Dreamcast had a short life, mainly because it didn't raise enough interest of developers. It did manage however to get Skies of Arcadia. This game surprised really surprised me and I'll explain why. The storyline is emersive, but unlike most FinalFantasy games its not overlycomplicated and you probably will understand whats going on. The graphics even today look great, comparable to some early Playstation2 rpgs. The character's controls are more responsive than most rpgs, this is helped greatly with very good camera controls. One of the best features of Skies of Arcadia is the extensive use of Air Ships. These floating replicas of 18th centruy sea faring vessels make traveling to the various places in the game much more enjoyable than having to walk down long paths. Skies of Arcadia lets you fully use the vmu. You can download a mini game and play it seperatly. In it you can find items and gold which can be uploaded back into the game when its pluged back in. Overall a great game, must buy for Dreamcast owners and a major reason to get a dreamcast in the first place.Read full review
If you're looking to buy any Dreamcast games on eBay, Skies of Arcadia should be on that list. While it was ported to the Gamecube, I still prefer this version - my reasoning? Well, this RPG takes advantage of everything that the Dreamcast was able to do. 1) The graphics are gorgeous, as most DC games graphics were, but the ones here really shine. 2) The story is solid and includes many classic RPG moments among some weirder elements (for instance, a cute evolving putty thing which you must feed is one character's weapon). 3) The VMU game is really good and there's a purpose behind having a normal VMU - every time you're near a certain item, the VMU gives a hearty beep while you search the screen for what it is. Sometimes it's a bit difficult to beat a certain boss or find your way to the next storyline portion, but no more than in any Square RPG. Skies of Arcadia isn't just the best RPG I've played for Dreamcast, it's also one of the best RPGs I've ever played!Read full review
After this games initial release I was able to borrow it from a friend. Before getting the chance to beat the game my friend needed the game back. I am now able to go back and finally finish it. While the price of this game has sky rocketed and I don't think the price hike is quite worth what you get, I am happy I can finally finish this great game from a gaming system that's life was far to short. RIP Sega Gaming Systems. Storyline is compelling. Graphics are fantastic (for the era of the SoA's release). Battle and magic system are decent. Controls can get a little wonky at times but not debilitating. Biggest issue: The opening screen crashes. I don't think I've ever been able to watch the whole thing regardless of the disc condition. I think it's bad code not hardware damage.

Skies of Arcadia was a very underrated rpg game. I would love to see a remake or even a remaster of this series on current gen but I doubt that will ever happen. The story is immersive and the characters are charming. Back in the day on the Dreamcast the graphics were pretty great for the time. You definitely won't regret your purchase for this game!

I purchased this NTSC USA version of Skies of Arcadia because it is the only version which works with the VGA box accessory while still being in English language so I was able to connect my Dreamcast to my CRT 21" vga monitor and play this game with it and still understand the story. European version only gives an error message and of course the Japanese version would be, well, Japanese. The drawback of course is that a region free mod or an action replay cdx boot cd is required for use with PAL Dreamcast. I really like this game as probably the best JRPG style game of its generation and I prefer this to Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 for having free to fly overworld and a really an imaginative game world as well as great music. I think this blends the best parts about games like Zelda (music, character design) and Final Fantasy (level up, loot, fighting system) while still being different enough to both of them to provide hours and hours of entertainment. I´ve played 10 hours so far and it looks like the game is just starting now! It still introduces new game mechanics to me like new stuff to the air ship battles.Read full review
This game is a must have for any Dreamcast owner! The Dreamcast may not have been known especially well for games in the RPG genre, but Skies of Arcadia alone makes up for the lack of RPGs by itself. An absolute necessity for fans of RPGs, Sega, and classic gaming in general. Skies of Arcadia is worth every penny of the particularly high price (for a Dreamcast title)!
