Creepy horror movie for Lovecraft fans
This film is so well-made that I have to give it 5 stars...but I probably won't watch it a second time. It's creepy...and isn't that the point of a good horror movie? I won't say too much about the plot; in this case, spoilers would truly spoil it. Compared to most contemporary horror movies, there is no graphic gore and no explicit sex. What is implied, but not actually shown, is scarier than what appears onscreen. If you've seen the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, THE HILLS HAVE EYES, CHILDREN OF THE CORN, or PSYCHO, you'll know what I mean. In one scene, a woman is totally nude, her body showing bruises and burns; the audience doesn't see these injuries actually being inflicted, and it is obvious that the mental torture is far worse than the physical. The main character wants to be a horror writer like H.P. Lovecraft. Near the end, there is a real treat for Lovecraft fans.
