One of the first truly Gay Love stories from the 80's. As a gay man living in that time at the time I can understand fully how the relations work. This one was done with fine taste and each character gave you their own personal thoughts. It happens to lots of gay men that try to conform to the straight life and fails because he is not a truly happy man. So you have to go on with your life and live it as you feel most comfortable with. I would recommend this movie to anyone man or woman that has had themselves in this situation!!!! I never get tired of watching it and when you have lived this type of life yourself you fully understand. I am glad to finally find it on DVD which has been converted to DVD with great quality!!! See it! Bill Gentry
With all the press about how "Brokeback Mountain" was such a break through, I decided to pick up "Making Love" because I had only vague memories of it when it first came out in 1982. Ironically, this film was release in 1982, the same year that story of "Brokeback Mountain" ends. So maybe in some alternate universe, Jack and Ennis move to Los Angeles and have a life together. Back to "Making Love" - it too was ground breaking at the time. So the movie is worth seeingform that standpoint. I remember when I first saw the film, during the scene wehere Harry and Michael finally go to bed with each other, a woman behind me whispered to her friend, "But what are they going to do with each other?" The scene was shot in a very dark bedroom so whatever they did was left to the imagination. But the two male leads do kiss several times. So while Harry and Michael were not quiet "A List" stars at the time, playing gay roles was probably more risky for them than Jake and Heath considering the times. 24 years later, the movie comes off as a little slow. I kept thinking it was like one of those "Lifetime" movies where woman's marriage is tossed in the air and she learns to coope with it. Kate Jackson is just a little too nice and too understanding and the end a little too happily ever after (but it does not end exactly how you might think it will). Worth seeing as an historical artifact. No etxras on the DVD but how much more interesting it would have been if Kate, Michael and Harry had done commentary. I'd consider buying it again if that version ever came out.Read full review

I originally saw the movie in it's origional and always loved it. Recently I thought that I would just put in the name and see if I could get a copy of it. Low and behold I found it on e-bay. It came very quickly and I have already watched it twice. Wonderful condition and excellent quality. Thanks again. Craig
I first saw this movie years ago. For some reason it touched me greatly! Its a love story in more ways then one-lost love, found love; and unrequited love. A story about loving someone so much, and they love you too; but for reasons out of both of your control-it just can't be! I am so happy that now I'm going to own this movie and I can't wait to see it again.
