Why can’t any kit maker re-engineer this kit? Imagine what BB39 would be like in this scale of somebody, anybody did something new. If, say, Tamiya or Aoahima would re-capture the ship with new molds putting the superstructure together in a different way. This kit is the old Banner kit with the same molds that are getting tired. True, there’s not much flash, but the thickness of the hull at the railing point is twice on one side as it is on the other. The portholes are, by scale, about 5’ wide. And the break line on the casemate deck is exactly the same as done by Revell in 1/426. I would pay a much higher price for a kit with accurate 5” casemate guns, thinner splinter shields, no molded in stairways everywhere. Oh well. At least there is no anchor chains molded into the foredeck. But, oh for some hull plate detail and an accurate bottom to the lower hull. A little better and more accurate 5” 25s and some nice, detailed .5” machine guns such as she had at the time of her sinking. This kit can be enhanced considerably with a couple of PE sets. Eduard and Tom’s are nice. A wood deck addition is practically a must have to hide the unsightly deck break lines. Eduard PE even covers the giant portholes and provides some hatches and waterproof bulkhead doors that are lacking. But where are they lacking? Don’t count on this kit to show their locations. PE ladderways are another must to give her some detail but the molded in pyramid steps will need to be cut away. It’s an ok kit if you don’t mind an enlarged version of the old standard Revell 1/426 kit. It’s just larger and the lack of detail is more apparent. At this price there’s not much to gripe about but one can always dream and hope someone will revitalize this hobby by taking BB39 on and making it what it could be in 1/350. I don’t really like 1/700 but the dragon kit is a very nicely done version of Arizona but do add PE to make it really pop. Come on, Tamiya. The wars over. Produce a 1/350 BB39 with all the pazazz of your IJN heavy cruisers. While you’re at it, throw a CV6 in the same scale at us. Your stock value will skyrocket. It’s time. The industry needs such a shot in the arm. A whole new section would have to be added to club galleries everywhere. Think of what could be built. While Arizona came to an evolutionary halt that morning next to Ford Island, Enterprise went on to participate in just about every action that saw any action in the Pacific. A new BB39 could be re-boxed as the Penn as she went through the war. Or Nevada as she fought that day and on till the end. The possibilities are only as limited as your ambition. Don’t let Hasegawa or Aoshima grab all the glory. But hey, Dragon. You can step up to the plate and take a swing. Or Zvesda. Many of you have what it takes to take on BB39 and put a grand slam of a kit out in 1/350 and clean up. Sorry about the baseball reference, but please, can I get a witness!Read full review

The only kit I built of the USS Arizona was the one released by Revell fifty years ago in a smaller scale. This 1/350 scale is accurately produced and will grace any mantle piece.
