Inherent drawer problems, and inherently slow.
I had the weirdest experience with the Pioneer Elite blue ray players. A friend of mine called me bragging about the high end Pioneer Elite disc player he bought on EBay. Since I normally have better electronics than he does, it was only appropriate that I get in on this deal too. I assumed that having at least one high end player was a good idea. He found me a another deal on eBay for an unopened brand new unit like his, but from a different seller. Soon after our purchase, my friend called me back to inform me that the disc drawer would not open up on his new unit. It would not respond to the remote control or to the manual drawer button. Odd for straight out of the box. He said he took his to a repair shop, and that I might want to pull mine out of the box and try mine. I was sure I ... I was sure I would not have the same problem with my shiny new player, but ultimately curiosity compelled me to go open my unit and plug it in. Well, sure enough, after 10 minutes of jacking with it I confirmed that the door on mine would not open either, and would not respond to the remote. I read the instructions and even tried rebooting the whole unit. It did not work so off mine went to the repair shop as well. One day later both units were repaired, and both units needed the drawer mechanism adjusted. It was a cheap fix on both, but very telling that both units from two different vendors had the same problem. My friend said that his research showed that a subcontractor had manufactured these units for Pionner. Another issue with these units is that they boot up painfully slow, and they do not respond to any commands until this lengthy boot up is complete. I have played a disc on mine to confirm that the picture is fine, but I did not take the time to amplify the audio signal through a surround sound system to rate the quality of the sound. The reason I bought this higher end player is that in the past I have seen a big difference in the sound quality produced by different playback machines, even when the picture was clearer on the worse sounding model. The sound difference can be significant. The picture on this Elite unit was fine, but I could not confirm it was any better than the bargain Sony unit I have been watching. However, waiting on a repair shop, and then waiting on this slow machine to work it's way through life has left a negative impression on me. I am not sure that the promise of quality from the Pionner Elite name is worth the bad experience and dashed hopes my friend and I both experienced. I am sorry that at the time of this review I have not confirmed the actual sound performance of this machine, or that the picture tracking is noticeably superior. But after experiencing the above, I was unmotivated to spend more time playing with this unit until really necessary.

For a used apparel, it works as expected so far. I have not tested a Blueray disk at this tin=me as yet.

Pioneer Elite blu ray has great picture & sound
Player works great. The first time operating the buttons and the remote it takes a few times to get them to work. (had same issue on same model I have already.)

NOT GOOD!
The first player I received the tray would not open, I sent it back and got a second one, its tray would not open ether! Out of frustration I took it apart and found an adjustment screw in the inside of the DVD tray and backed it out a few turns. It now works great most of the time, but sometimes will not eject a dvd without unplugging the cord and restarting the unit!
