About this product

Product Information

Inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil examines the next step in the evolutionary process of the union of human and machine. Kurzweil foresees the dawning of a new civilization where we will be able to transcend our biological limitations and amplify our creativity, combining our biological skills with the vastly greater capacity, speed and knowledge-sharing abilities of our creations. In practical terms, human ageing and illness will be reversed; pollution will be stopped and world hunger and poverty will be solved. There will be no clear distinction between human and machine, real reality and virtual reality. 'The Singularity is Near' offers a view of the coming age that is both a dramatic culmination of centuries of technological ingenuity and a genuinely inspiring vision of our ultimate destiny.

The book was as described. Excellent value and great service. Very quick dispatch and good communication. There was a delay by Royal Mail of 48 hours for some reason. But still excellent service by the seller. Many thanks

  • The Singularity is Near: How Kurzweil's Predictions Are Faring

I actually wrote a full blog post reviewing this book: "Back in 2007 I was very excited to start reading The Singularity is Near by Ray Kurzweil which had been published 2 years earlier in 2005. As someone who'd always been fascinated by computers and technology since I started programming my first ZX Spectrum as a child, through to my teenage years programming in QBASIC, to my work as a Web Developer, I was well aware of Moore's law and very conscious of the accelerating progress in technology. As I started to read, it became clear that this was an exceptional book. The clarity of Kurzweil's writing, the level of detail he went in to about each concept he discussed and the content itself were entirely captivating, not least because the predictions were set to happen in the near future ...

  • Life-changing

Simply life-changing. One of the most interesting and instructive books I have read. It led me to change diet, habits, routines that have been established all my life. It led me to read and research into areas that I had never thought about before. It is still influencing me now as I continue to explore along the many avenues that this amazing book opened for me. Its influence spread to my immediate family and my friends. It is a life-affirming experience to read this book and I would recommend it to anyone.
