The Everest Years with Erie Wilkins is a classic big band recording. In the band you have a strong sprinkling of Basie-musicians. Marshal Royal plays excellent lead alto. You also find an influence from modern musicians like Richard Williams. On this issue you get a lot of music for your money - in fact music from two out of print LP:s. Ernie Wilkins has written good arrangements on good standards- The sound is first class fifties sound. Noone have been able to duplicate the big band sound from the fifties. Karl-Erik Sturebrant - Sweden.
Ernie Wilkins was an important contributor to the successful libraries of Count Basie, Harry James, and Maynard Ferguson in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It’s refreshing and enlightening to hear what hip, swinging arrangements Wilkins wrote for his own stellar group.
