A man flees a disturbed past and an empty future pursued by the law, a psychopathic killer, and a woman who still loves him. Good not great horror movie...
Night Breed is based on a book called Cabal, by director Clive Barker. The story to me is a juxtaposition of good and evil. Sometimes who we think are monsters really aren't monsters at all. The makeup effects are done fairly well, as there is a large group of 'monsters' in the film, some with very impressive make up jobs. The problem with this film for some, will be the same problem Clive Barker has (and for the most part Stephen King books have) with any film based on one of his novels: lack of time. The book is a rich story full of fantastical creatures with tragic pasts and terrifying stories of being hunted by merciless humans all their lives. We don't meet many of those characters in this film, instead we are basically exposed to the main characters love story. Also, just like ... All in all I think it is a great movie, just not enough meat for me... No pun intended. If you like Hellraiser or Candyman give it a watch.

Still a favorite!
When Night Breed first came out it became my all time favorite movie. I was about 19 or 20 and a relative owned a video store so I was able to get it and watch it anytime I wanted to. It was one of those with enough special effects and storyline to keep me interested. And, at the time, I was a huge horror novel reader. Barker, King, Kuntz were just a few of my favorites. So this year when it came time to think about what movies my 15 year old daughter and I were going to watch for Halloween - I instantly thought of Night Breed. My 15 year old is a horror novel/movie queen - the grosser and the scarier the better. I thought this would be a perfect movie for us to watch together. However I could not find it in any movie store in our town. So I looked in the next best place - ... When Night Breed first came out it became my all time favorite movie. I had almost forgot about it when it arrived. Excited I rushed home to watch it with my 15 year old. It was the same movie I loved so many years ago. The special effects were not as special as they used to be, compared to today's standards, but the message was still just as clear and probably more important to me now then it had been then. Because even though it is a horror suspense moving, it is about differences, discrimination, fear and how one population can destroy another just because they don't understand each other. But in the end, my 15 year old had the last word. "That was stupid," she said with her flat mono-tone flair. I responded "It was a GREAT movie when it first came out. So what if the special effects aren't all that great. It has a real message to it." Which she responded to "It was still stupid." So my suggestion, don't waste it on a 15 year old. Buy it for yourself and enjoy a short trip back in time when puffy hair was still in, for the girls AND the guys.

Monsterously Entertaining
Possibly the most underrated horror movie of all time. The film was intriguing, I wouldn’t call it a great motion picture masterpiece, or a throw away, it was definitely worth the watch. The story puts a spin on the ever classic monster movie, making the humans the bad guys. The originality of the movie doesn’t stop with the story, the characters and underlying themes are also interesting. The movie does have some problems though, despite the beautiful matte paintings, acceptable make up and interesting props, the movie suffers. The acting on a whole (with the exception of David Cronenberg) can be described as over the top or downright silly. Perhaps the biggest flaw with the film is the editing, it feels thrown together and at times pulls the audience out of the story instead of ... Possibly the most underrated horror movie of all time. Don't go to cemeteries with large iron gates--bad idea....
80's style horror at it's best. Funny and not overly gory. Formulaic and predictable--but still entertaining.

The Greatest Horror Film Ever Made. Bar NONE.
This is without a doubt my absolute favorite movie of all time. I even named my daughter Midian as an homage to this film. The book is wonderful and it is exactly like the novel down to the dialogue. It is as accurate to the book as Fight Club is to the film adaptation. However, the book has more story included. I am hoping the director's cut opf the film, which is apparently a half hour longer, will have the missing scenes from the book cut back in. The movie is absolutely wonderful and delivers a powerful message of tolerance, acceptance and the old phrase "Don't judge a book by its cover." It is also a beautiful love story, The love the main characters girlfriend has for him even transcends death. I give this movie a perfect 5 rating, and I recomend it to fans of Clive Barker, horror, ... This is without a doubt my absolute favorite movie of all time.
