This is by far the most stable and easiest to setup tripod I have ever owned. The legs drop down and lock at the simultaneous press of two short levers (bit of a knack but soon learned). Attaching a camera is as easy as with any other Manfrotto tripod. The only drawback is its size and weight, which is, of course, what gives it it's great stability; it weighs just over 6mgs or very nearly 13lbs. If you are getting on a bit, as I am, you will need a wheeled camera bag to help with lugging it about. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for hopping about taking loads of shots. But, if you need a stable platform for landscape, wildlife or macro work this is the one.

Always fancied one of these and was not disappointed. Heavy pro tripod so not for taking on photowalks. Really solid construction and is a solid as a rock.

This review is about the Manfrotto 058b After watching a few training videos, i have craved this tripod, it is the hottest tripod you can buy. For the faint hearted, this tripod is a beast as it is quite heavy at almost 6kilos, but this is good, it makes it very sturdy when taking pictures of landscapes and the wind is blowing. this is a real mans tripod. This tripod is the second largest in the manfrotto range, designed for studio and larger format cameras than the 35mm variety. However this tripod is so cool, you don't miss the shot with this tripod, as it has a unique button system at the top of the column, hold the tripod at the desired height, press the three buttons and the legs just fall into position. Another cool feature is that it can go so low that it almost touches the floor, yet when fully extended, with its column at full height can almost reach 8 ft, how cool is that!!!!! One of the special features i like about it ,the second set of legs are screw out, as they will not be used as often. This tripod is so universal you can put a dolly on the feet and wheel it around on a set with a video camera attached. And finally i just learnt as I'm an out door person, you can purchase snow shoes for it so you don't sink into the snow or sand, or use on uneven surfaces. Who wants light weight carbon anyway!!!! It is a little pricey, but this is the best, you get what you pay for.Read full review
This is a large and heavy tripod, i.e. perfect for studio use. My version is aluminium, not black. I would not think of taking this tripod outside the studio unless there was car parking nearby. A slightly stiff but clever lever releases all three legs simultaneously. The geared head is useful, though not very precise feeling.
This is a must have for any full time photographer it is so fast to set up and use we could not do with out these in our wedding business it is a little on the heavy side but all in all a brilliant bit of kit We use manfrotto ball heads as the quality is unbeatable Hope this helps ian
