    Valuable Source for the Retreat to Corunna

    Ker Porter took part in Sir John Moore's ill-fated campaign in Spain from November 1808 to January 1809. The advantage of this over other memoirs is that his letters were written on the spot at the time rather than retrospectively. The early letters read rather like travelogues and reflect British prejudices of the time, but the letters recounting the horrors of the retreat to Corunna are what really makes this a valuable source for anyone interested in the Peninsula War. Porter was also a more than competent artist and this edition also includes several of his sketches.
