Great little device, super simple to setup: it's just set and forget it (and then you have networked storage & Time Machine backups). Multi-user support is a plus, and it works really wells mounted on Linux using CIFS in the fstab. And of course it's a great router too. I wish the Airport Utility was a bit nicer for advanced things like DHCP Reservations and Port Forwards, but it's reliable!

I purchased this product to use as a network bridge for a high-end digital music player that needs to be hard-wired to a router or modem. At the same time, it was to be a server for the said player, with all of my music library saved to the time capsule. It took many hours and a visit to the Apple Genius Bar to get it to work in the first place. When it finally did work, it was only partly recognized by the network, thereby negating its ability to be used as I had intended. Even at that, this partial recognition was only achieved after having spent an entire morning on the phone with a technician. Now, after plugging it back in after a week of not using it, it was unable to be located on the network. A nice piece of design, but based on my experience as well as that of many others - as I have discovered by consulting various online fora - one that obviously does not work with all modems or ISPs.Read full review

This time machine heats up quickly and stays heated the entire time it's plugged in. If you're looking for a huge storage and compatibility with your other Apple products then this machine is well-qualified. Other than that, after just a week of using this time machine to backup my files, I noticed that some of my bigger sized movie files randomly disappeared, though this does not happen often. In terms of physical quality, the machine is not designed for its portability since it's quite heavy and gigantic in terms of external hard drives.
I have only had this for 18 hours so take that into consideration. 1) This unit was setup in 5 minutes absolutely no lie! 2) My wife's 34gb of data was backed up in 10 minutes. 3)My 384gb of data started backing up a 7pm on Friday night and was completed by 9am on Saturday morning. 4) The 2 year old problem I had with my iTunes match not functioning properly on my Mac Book Pro through my D-Link network was resolved instantly 5) My TIVOs, Apple TV, Win 8 PC, MacBook Pro, wireless printers, iPhones, iPad minis and MacBook Air were all only the network working properly in less than 1/2 hour.(I only mention all of these to show how little time it took for all devices) So needless to say I am extremely happy with paying $160 for the 4th generation 2TB Network Attached Storage wireless router. I'm only sorry I can't afford the 5th generation ac protocol model....presently.Read full review
I bought this Time Capsule after having repeated problems with my existing wireless router as well as an external hard drive that I was using for backups died. A perfect storm for picking up a time capsule. Since I set this up (which took about 10 minutes) I have zero interruptions in my internet connection, and Time Machine has been backing up hourly without a hiccup. A little pricey maybe but rock solid and reliable so far.
The item runs as both a backup HD and a router. The router is average. Nothing very special. The HD portion is worse. The data can be sent via WIFI and ethernet only. The USB is only for an external HD or adding a printer. For a 2 or 3 TB HD I doubt you would want to add more space. The HD backup speed at first is very slow. I previously had a SATA external HD with firewire 800, 400 and USB 2.0. That data backup took place VERY fast. Unless you want the ease of backing up via WIFI I wouldn't recommend this device. ALL in all unless you can get it for cheaper than the $300 asking price I wouldn't recommend purchasing it. With some other models you can network your external HD to your existing network. I simply liked this because it was an all in one unit.
Encased in an relatively small white case is a very powerful WiFi router and fast back-up. The WiFi signal is strong enough for me to use my devices all over my 2 acre property. The 2TB back-up drive is big enough to work for most computers. Due to Apple's programming, it is very easy to set up and use. It is also a lifesaver! shortly after buying this unit, my HDD failed. I purchased a solid state hybrid drive and restored my computer to exactly the place it was before the crash. All wirelessly from this great Time Capsule. Highly recommended!

After some initial installation problems in connection with the use of PLC, the TC works as it should. I haven't tested the transmission speed yet but it seems OK.

I was throughly amazed at the performances and ease of integration of this router into my Existing network. The Time Capsule function is the reason I bought it and its versatily is the reason I give it 5 stars. It's dual band, low profile, silent while in operation, with the full range up to the "N" wireless specification. gotta Mac network? this little route would be a great addition to you system. and, they are very affordable now.

Setup of the Time Capsule was extremely easy, overall performance isn't so good. I have a wireless data connection with speeds of 56 mb/s with my previous ASUS router. With this one, I am only getting 41 mb/s rates. The range isn't that good and the read/write speeds of the internal hard drive are rather slow. They, Apple, needs to go back to the drawing board and beef up the specs!
