I'll get right down to it: PROS: Excellent fluidity and smooth-running graphics engine for the game. The realism of car handling and dynamics, especially performance under car damage, seems to capture more of the driving essence which should be a staple of any racing game(a feature Gran Turismo has yet to address) By far Forza 2 is an improvement on one of the most realistic racers available today. Car selection is fantastic, and course selection is fairly expansive. Car customization options gives you a limitless combination of stuff to do with your car...you can probably spend days fine tuning and still have room for improving your car. CONS: To sacrifice for smoothness, the graphics have become a little jagged (i.e. a sacrifice of rasterization for speed) but when you play such a smooth-framed game like Forza 2, you tend to forget about the jaggedness. Also, wish they would at least have an option for playing in-GAME music rather than just menu music (If they have an option for that, I've yet to figure it out) Also, by today's standards, the level of detail for the courses are lacking (a somewhat simplistic and kinda "wide-open-field" feeling...though whatever detail they do include within each course is very true to life) OVERALL: This is a purchase-worthy game you will enjoy for the smooth and realistic game-play. The visual piece is an added bonus (though not much) and the lack of in-game music might drive you insane after racing through an endurance course (thank God for iPods!) but overall a great title to add to your Xbox 360 collection.Read full review
Very reminiscent or the GT series, Forza 2 brings a level or refinement to racing with the 360 that was previously unheard of. The tuning adjustments are interesting and novel and the game challenging. My only complaints for the game are a lack of variety (for instance no rally courses) and user controllability (If a car of mine doesn't fit into their classes well I'm SOL, there is no way to specify a real race if you don't fit in or chose opponent cars for the challenge of it, finally there is the manual: The game gives no useful information on how use the many tuning adjustments beyond trial and error. Although it has some innovation it seems to intentionally hold back features that would have been a easy improvement for no obvious reason beyond saving something for the next sequel.
Forza Motorsport 2 is a the only simulation-based Racing title on the Xbox. While it does have it's share of flaws, the game is very ambitious. While it may not be the most exciting racing title, maybe arcade racing has more glitz and glamor, Forza is an earnest attempt at grass roots racing. There are many types of vehicles to choose from and unlike competitor Gran Turismo, the customization is more similar to a Need for Speed game. With that kind of customization, the possibilities of making a completely unique car is simple. Engine swaps have to be one of the most interesting aspects of car building. And of course, there is the multiplayer. If you enjoy dirty, nose-grinding races, strap in for Forza Motorsport.
This game is a lot of fun right off the bat. It's pretty easy to get into even if you don't know the first thing about cars. For the more experienced players, you can fine tune your car to allow for more traction, better handling, etc. The big problem with this game though is the repetitive game play. You will race the same track time and time again although it may be slightly modified to make you believe you are playing a new track. If you are going for the achievements, after awhile you will just end up hiring a driver to play through the more boring races. This game is a good game for around 20 hours, but it gets boring quick after that.
Many Forza enthusiasts think the second in a long line of evolutionary steps was the best. Forza 2 represented a big leap forward in terms of graphics, tracks available and realistic handling. Clean, uncomplicated gameplay was a hallmark of this version. Sadly, the support has dwindled (after all this is very old in terms of video games), but you can still play against online opponents and this game offers fairly exciting racing dynamics. Need for Speed, Gran Turismo, F1, Shift: all the rival franchises have their rabid fans, but none (IMO) hold a candle to Forza Motorsport. What about the experience of dealing with support? In our present age of "anything to please the consumer...until we have ALL their money; then we couldn't care less" there's really not much difference between, say, Sony Playstation and Microsoft XBox. You need to develop a thick skin when it comes to profit-driven decisions about DLC (Downloadable Content) and how long servers will be maintained, etc. Gaming in general has become a fairly weird world, but if you enjoy racing simulations in particular, with plenty of opportunity for exercising creativity as well as competition, you owe it to yourself to try Forza Motorsport 2. Pros: The game has good graphics and the gameplay is fluid. The amount of cars is acceptable and the level of detail is great. Cons: The career mode is a bit monotonous. Overall, the game is good. Graphics are good, gameplay is fluid and progress is steady. The cars are very detailed and look wonderful. The amount of vehicles is pleasing and adds variety. The career mode is pretty boring, doing the same thing over and over again in different vehicles can get very tedious.
Forza Motorsports 2 (FM2) is the title that really helped sell the Xbox 360 to people. Now Turn 10 (Company that make the Forza titles) have released the third title in the series. Still, without Forza 2 the wouldn't have the foundations for Forza 3. FM2 was so far ahead of the competition when it was released that real life racers used it to test out tracks and cars, that is how close to real life driving it is. The biggest aspect of FM2 had to defiantly be the online community. With the opportunity to buy and sell cars on their own auction house, players could generate millions of in game credits. The tuning aspect of FM2 gets so in depth it can be confusing, but don't fret, it can be simplified down. You can do whole engine swaps, drive train swaps and tune just about any aspect of a car. On top of all this tuning is the decal tuning, with the chance to use over 1000 layers of just about any shape you can find, you can really create anything your imagination can think of. These paints jobs can also be sold on the online auction house. You have the option to "Lock" the paint job so other players can't edit your work then re-sell it on. Without a doubt, the tuning and auction house really shined on this game. On top of all this are the variety of different tracks you can race on, from Laguna Seca to the Nurburgring ring, you really can find your perfect track. Each track looks and feels exactly like its real life counterpart so you can feel each bump in the road. But what use are tracks without cars? Don't worry, that's what FM2 does best. With over 300 cars now, that's including downloadable content, you are sure to find your favourite car to race on your favourite track. All in all, if you want an in depth racing game to keep you hooked for months then Forza Motorsports 2 is the game to get. Running at 60 frames per second along with a highly active online community, this game has so much to keep you busy you may find yourself having to tuck your other games away for a month or so. Trying to think of a reason not to buy Fora Motorsports 2, or 3, is like trying to find a needle in a very big haystack. Go buy both games! Enjoy!Read full review
This game really amazed me. The detail is very realistic as well as the driving. I have to compare it with Grand Turismo 4 because is the only game I know, it has such variety of cars and tuning capabilities. It's like they pick up the GT4 and sharpen the edges, upgrade the resolution and image and voilá ! Forza Motorsport 2 came out. The control of the car, is a little more difficult in FM2 then in GT4, for the simple fact the button used on the Xbox 360 controller is sensible to the pressure applied, in opposite to the PS2 that have only two stages, pressed and released. In another way, when you drive the car, it feels like you are really making a turn and trying to keep the car on tracks. The other good thing about it is that the car actually takes demage from crash. If you change the difficult on the car demage field to simulation you might blow your engine, screw up your turbo, twist your suspension, making realistic car demage behavior. I'd recomend this game in 1st place to anyone who is buying an xbox 360 and like to play car games. It's not an arcade car game in which the car doesn't break or the controls are easy, but is challenging to the point, you are not gonna get frustrated on the difficult neither is too easy as well I strongly recomend it !Read full review
Forza Motorsport 2 is an excellent racing game for the Xbox 360. It's a game for all, as the physics are in between arcade style and simulator style, so while it has it's challenges it's not too hard to pick up on, as some racing simulator's can be. The game offers customizations for all the cars, from engine performance car components to aesthetics. The arcade mode allows you to test out the hundreds of different cars the game has to offer, while the career mode is always pushing you to move forward. Along the way your are awarded cars, points, and discounts on parts and cars and the whole time the game becomes increasingly tougher. The car models and textures are excellently done, smooth and highly accurate. Along with the ability to customize your paint job and add decals, you can go into photography mode and take snapshots while racing. These pictures can be uploaded through Xbox Live and downloaded to your PC (the only way to get them off the Xbox 360 is through Xbox Live). The only negative I have about this game would be the lack of tracks. There's only a handful and you quickly find yourself during the career mode begging for more. It's not a huge negative, the game is still very very fun, it just could have used a couple more tracks. Their saving grace is that they included the infamous "Nurburgring" which is one of the most complex tracks in the world. Over all, it's a very fun game that will offer re-playability and tons of enjoyment for even those who aren't the best of video game racers.Read full review
When something has reached perfection, what can you say? Forza Motorsport 2 has been a fair while in the making. It is the ONLY racing simulator on the Xbox360 and will remain that way for quite some time. However this distinction shows off its great points even more, the seamless online to single player career is excellent, the cars in number and handling characteristics, the seemingly unlimited livery editor and the great tuning options. Forza Motorsport 2 goes as deep as you want it to, if you want to treat it kind of arcadey it is kind of possible but the cars WILL bite back and your lack of care. Go a little deeper and you can play it like a Gran Turismo, buy car, race car, earn cash, use cash. Alternatively go into the deep end and find yourself immersed in online tournaments, mini championships, auction house, livery editor. The demo is up on marketplace and gives a good if limited experience of the full game. I suggest you download that to see if you are interested. I knew I would be from day 0. Thanks for reading.Read full review
