Having come to CSI late when it was on television, I decided to go back to the inception to see what I had missed. Viewing Season 1 is a hoot. From the pilot through the various episodes, you can watch 1) Grissom's hair color change as part of the developing character; 2) a tougher, declasse Katherine whom it is not difficult to imagine dancing around a stripper's pole; 3) Warrick's gambling addiction almost leading him astray but then paving the way for the later Warrick; 4) a not-yet buff Nick. Also still in development: the fingerprint woman who has not yet gotten her prop glasses. Introduced in later episodes is our gruff pathologist (who knew he had a thing for lattes?), a possible love interest for Grissom and two stalwarts whose characters are pretty much on track as they will be during the entire run: Sara, abrasive and obnoxious as ever (confession: I NEVER liked her and am still unhappy that she won out over Lady Heather!) and an immature Greg -- whose character development over the 9 seasons is the most gradual and fleshed out. Here is the dork who grows up in the job. The episodes are not as tightly written as later seasons (before they start falling apart in season 9) and there are lacunae in the conclusions reached by characters from the the evidence they process and/or not well-founded conclusionary leaps. If you're curious about the work-in-progress aspect of this series it's worth watching. If you got hooked later, you may find the writing/storylines less well-crafted and some of the reasoning/evidence shortcuts irritating. Read full review

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS Productions, which became CBS Paramount Television in the fall of 2006, and CBS Television Studios three years later. Formerly a co-production with the now-defunct Alliance Atlantis Communications, that company's interest in the series is now owned by investment firm GS Capital Partners, an affiliate of Goldman Sachs.[10] CBS acquired AAC's international distribution rights to the program, though the non-US DVD distribution rights did not change (for example, Momentum Pictures continues to own UK DVD rights). The series has been heavily criticized—almost since its debut—by police and district attorneys, who feel CSI portrays an inaccurate image of how police solve crimes, and by the Parents Television Council, who note the level and gratuitousness of graphic violence, images and sexual content seen on the show. Nevertheless, CSI became the most watched show on American television by 2002. The success of the show encouraged CBS to produce a franchise, starting in May 2002 with the spin-off CSI: Miami and then again in 2004 with CSI: NY. The series is now in syndication and reruns are currently broadcast in the U.S. on the Spike and TV Land cable networks. The show has aired in reruns on the USA Network since January 14, 2011.Read full review
When CSI first I didn't get involved. Until season 2 so I never really watched the first season. CSI is a show were they got every cast member exactly right. The chemistry between the actors is terrific. I really enjoy is one episode all 5 CSIs are working on one case, then the next episode they split them up working 2 different cases. Marg Helgenberger was great in this show.

Love the Original CSI. We watched every week back in the day and just purchased the first 7 seasons on DVD as we are cutting the comcast cable cord. We will now watch what we want when we want unedited, commercial free and for Free other than the initial purchase cost which in this case is about .50 cents an episode ! Having this series available for weekend winter binges and late night viewing is great. Looking forward to revisiting the past with the CSI crew and the mind boggling cases again.

One of the best shows ever on TV was CSI. I bought the first season because it is one of the best of the entire series. When this show came out in 2000, it took TV to a whole new level. The show is action packed though out, and the special effects are about as real is it will get. This is a highly recommended series to get.
