I use the Rebel 2000 quite a bit, mostly for family get togethers and birthday parties. It is great for this use be cause it is small, light, (I am used to my EOS-1N) and has a built in flash. I can run around with this thing around my neck all day and not feel tired. When in "green mode" (full auto) the camera will select the correct focus points automatically and in "program mode" it will allow you to select one of the seven focus points manually if you wish. When you are ready to venture away from full auto, it offers, aperture priority, shutter priority, full manual and other shooting modes. Also the camera has a "prewind" system. When film is loaded into the camera it is wound up onto the take-up spool and is fed back into the cartridge as pictures are taken. This is a great safety feature in case the camera back is opened accidentally. This is a great camera for some one starting out in SLR photography and wants to take some time to learn more about it.Read full review
As the popularity of film declines this camera remains a solid choice for students wanting to learn a SLR style camera, or those wishing to step up from a point and shoot 35mm. Right now, it cost more to buy the batteries than this camera costs. The auto focus is very accurate, the LCD display is very easy to read and user friendly. Manuals for this camera are available on the canon website. This model has most of all the modern features such as shutter or aperature priority, program mode, full manual control. This camera also features the semi-auto modes such as portrait, sports, landscape, and night shot. Just an FYI, this camera only accepts the EF lenses and not the newer EF-S(digital) lenses.
I got this camera as a gift in 2005 for Valentines Day and I couldn't have been happier. I had very little experience with SLR Cameras....(watching my mom snap pics when I was younger...) so this was really fun learning. I ended up taking a course at the local college, which really helped to lear all of the manual options. This is a great starter camera, and it really helped me develope my photography skills and showed me another way to express myself creativly. When We first bought it, we (my boyfriend) paid $295.00 for the camera and almost another $100.00 for a 18-55mm lens and some other accessories.....now, this would cost alot less, so always buy used. I would LOVE to update to the Digital SLR version of this, but I can't afford it right now. If someone is looking to upgrade to digital, look at expresscameras.com. I HAVE NEVER purchased anything from them, so it is just a guide to check out prices for digital slr's. If you are considering this camera for a early teen, I would wait until they're a little older- 16-17 yrs. You can get all the special effects lens additions for pretty cheap online....it is also nice to use e6 slide film, which you view using an overhead projector....you can get a pretty nice used projector on ebay for about 20.oo which includes s/h! its a nice hobby, but the film can get a little pricey when you have to add the developing costs in as well. it is fun, but it is starting to feel like "dead technology" when compared to the digital version. If you are looking for a cheap, short term hobby, pick something else.....if this is something that you want to take up to snap a few quick pics here and there, buy a digital camera....Read full review
I bought this slr body to compliment my digital rebel, which it is perfect for. It's feature set is sufficient for a secndary camera, which for most, this will be. Just know that yur ef-s lenses will not work with this camera!!! I had to replace my digital rebel's kit lens(which I wanted to do anyway) in order to use this camera. It is very lightweight and takes great pictures!!!
For those who love B&W Photography this is a good camera for it, either manual or auto focus is great, easy to setup, differents modes of shooting, interchangeable lenses, film auto loading, a good product. Currently digital cameras is leaving behind the films cameras but for begginers who want to know and experience photography's world in an artistic and meaningful way, this is a excelent option to start collecting great experiences and memories.
