This is a hard truth about WWII that we as a country should never done this way. Japan bombed pearl harbor, but US citizens lost their homes, jobs and lives sitting in interment camps waiting for war to end. Many Japanese enlisted and helped win the war. True story

Based on J. G. Ballard's autobiographical novel, tells the story of a boy, James Graham, whose privileged life is upturned by the Japanese invasion of Shanghai, December 8, 1941. Separated from his parents, he is eventually captured, and taken to Soo Chow confinement camp, next to a captured Chinese airfield. Amidst the sickness and food shortages in the camp, Jim attempts to reconstruct his former life, all the while bringing spirit and dignity to those around him. The film is another Steven Spielberg triumph. His keen eye and remarkable story telling ability is once again paramount to the storyline. Historically accurate, a dramatic script and visually moving, makes this a wonderful movie experience.
Have always loved this movie. Is one of my favorites. Christian Bale did a superb job.

Very engaging story of a young lad who became separated from his parents in Japan at the beginning of WW II. Doesn't seem to get much play on TV since (1) it's long and (2) not flattering to Japan (now our ally). So DVD is best choice to see this again from time to time.
