Far Cry 2 is a fun game, with lots of options for the missions. The graphics have improved in terms of the landscape and the characters. It is still a great first-person shooter. There are some things that should have been preserved from the original game. Trucks with machine guns can not be driven and fired at the same time. There are no binoculars like in Far Cry, only a weak monocular as part of the map system. More types of weapons are available, but they are not as accurate or lethal as they were in the original game. You shoot someone with multiple rounds from a SAW and they are still shooting at you. Scoped rifles can not be adjusted or zoomed in. Weapons often jam if you pick them up from a dead opponent. The vehicles are no easier to drive and you do a lot of traveling in the game. Game developers need to leave the good stuff from the old game in the next edition.Read full review
This is a good first person shooter. It is nice to play a game that is not the usual fare i,e, world war or urban blight. I enjoy tooling around Africa in a Jeep gun truck meeting exciting new people and then killing them. It can be a bit boring at tiems when you have to look for the diamonds that are the medium of exchange in this part of the world. It can take a while to get up enough "money" to get the essential items required to keep your head in this game. It is very realistic in it's graphics which can load up a light duty system. This game requires a lot of processor and a lot of memory, otherwise it will hang up in this game. I just don't have the juice. I have to play at the lower end of the options or it hangs. This game isn't for lightweight machines.
Very mixed feelings about this game! At its best , it's very interesting and fun, but MANY annoying glitches, gameplay that becomes almost tedious at times, with a frustrating repetitive aspect to things like the gun dealer and assassination missions that palls quickly. Destroy interchangeable weapon convoys. Kill generic guy in suit. Fun the first few times, then... These missions only exist to unlock weapons and get you diamonds (the game currency). This is a game in bad need of an overhaul. The endless running all over the map takes up so much time that after a while you start to feel numbed by the experience. The way that ALL the crossroads guard stations, etc., attack you starts to feel like Final Fantasy 1. Just constant stereotypical attacks every time you wander down the road from your current position. On the good side, the faction missions are really what the game is about. Interesting, varied, and fun. The weapons selection is broad and there is obvious attention to detail in designing them to give many choices as to your approach to individual missions. You can be stealthy for this mission, with silenced weapons, sniper rifle and radio controlled IEDs, and gangbusters for the next one with machine gun, assault rifle and grenade launcher. Cool! The environment is nicely designed, and at high res generally lives up to its reputation. On the whole, though the more tedious aspects (incessant crossroads attacks, constant car chases, repetitive assassination and weapon dealer missions) end up seeming more like "filler" to add bulk rather than quality to the experience. This really does end up detracting substantially from the game. There is enough there that it is still a game well worth playing, but sometimes endless tedious aspects to the play is only an excuse for lazy design, and trimming the fat would yield a trimmer better game.Read full review

This game sucks, there's no other way to put it. You can already see used games popping up and it's been barely out for a day. The graphics are horrible - the game could have been a hit four or five years ago. The textures are primitive and can't compare to either Crysis or Call of Duty 4. The entire game folder is half the size of either Crysis or COD4, so this should give you some idea of the size and quality of the objects and textures. If you're thinking open-world environment like Crysis(at least the first half-of the game) or Crysis Warhead, you're in for a rude awakening. Yes, you can move about freely, as long as you don't veer of the mission area, or you will collapse of malaria and return to the last waypoint. The "destructible" environment is very selective, the window shutters must be built from some really hard exotic African wood, because they are totally impervious to any bullet damage, as are many of the buildings, in general. The coffee plants or whatever it is that grows in the fields are also resistant to fire damage, unlike the grass and some of the trees which are simply replaced by a darkened texture patch after the silly animated fire subsides. I watched a fire burn through the the green leaves of a tree and watch the tree transform to a blackened, pointy skeleton that looked like it's been build from ten polygons. Lob a grenade in the vegetation and watch it sway rubber-like long after the explosion. The blood splatter animation reminds me of Bioshock, totally exaggerated and unnatural just like any other fluid physics in the game. Forgive me if I'm too harsh but considering the hype and the high standard set by Crytek, the developer of the original Farcry, this game is a major disappointment.Read full review
