I recently bought a used Eurovan, and it came with an alpine stereo. The seats face inward and a table folds up, so I bought this remote so I could control my stereo from the back area. It works great for that. What I didn’t expect was that it is also great when I am up front. I could never find the off button on the main stereo, but now it’s easy to turn off. It also just worked immediately without any programming. I am so happy!

This worked great right out of box. No steps to sync to my unit were needed. I just popped in a couple AAA batteries, and it immediately turned on/off my 164BT Alpine car stereo, plus operated other controls as indicated. Using this to control source, volume, tuning, etc is a lot safer and easier (once control buttons memorized) than reaching over to the unit itself while driving.

Whoever had this unit took very good care of it. Personally i like the old alpine models the new ones sounds like garbage. I like it simply bass treble loudness that's it. I had the alpine model 172bt for a very short time and i was disappointed how the quality went down. This bass engine that the new model s have is horrible the earlier alpine head units sounded like old vintage home stereos. Like pioneer marantz sansui etc now they sound like cheap boss equipment.

The interesting thing about the Alpine remote control was that it came included with most Alpines a few years ago. Now most of the Alpines do not have a remote control but they do have a infrared hardware to support a remote. One must purchase an old stock remote, like this 4202, if they want a remote for their system. The remote is a must have for Alpine owners. The remote offered one button that the new Alpines do not have: "MUTE". Mute is a must, and it's even nicer to have it on a remote as to not have to reach to the unit. Sometimes music will be between tracks while one in inside a menu several levels deep. The music will play at a level higher than expected, but you will not be able to turn the volume down, because you are deep within a branch of option menus. Nice to hit the mute quickly rather than having to very quickly back out of the menu to gain control over the "volume" knob again. I love Alpine, but their design decisions since 2000 have become questionable. I dislike having others tell me about hidden features, not discusses in the owners manual, that are nice to know about. I do not like the cheaply made buttons and faceplate of the newer units as compared to their old units. I compete with my units, and each time I upgrade, I question whether purchasing a new Alpine unit will be my last due to their poor design decisions. I dislike having to buy an old remote control to provide a vital function, for a new unit that should have came included. Thanks for reading my rant...Read full review
